Dante Silva Posted July 15 Posted July 15 FFS! What is wrong with record labels these days, does no-one know/ remember how to create a 12" extended vocal dance mix? The "BRB" version sounds like it's going to segue way in to a vocal .. and then it fades out and ends, this song is amazing. WTF has streaming culture done to peoples brains? 1 1

It's not streaming culture but tiktok culture. Usually fan made sped up or slowed down versions of the songs go viral on tiktok and get millions of views, that's why these labels are dropping the official versions hoping they will be picked up. 1 1

I'm 100% convinced they intended to release it second week or something like that but they're in full panic mode now and are releasing it just to CHART at all. That and the radio payola. 3 1
Dante Silva Posted July 15 Posted July 15 (edited) I've sent this to a friend who knows how to do this stuff but is very busy at work and may not have the time. I thought I'd place it here in case anyone has the software, understands the concept, feels inspired and knows what to do: Spoiler I know you are busy and you probably don't have the time, but I just wanted you to know that Katy Perry has just dropped an "EP" of WW. To me it looks like a jigsaw puzzle of random parts that if apportioned in the right place once combined could formulate an excellent old school 12" Extended Vocal Dance Mix. There is the "BRB Woman" Version (which is the instrumental of the streaming edit in all but name). There is the "Doing The Most Woman" Version (which is the regular length single/ album version without further concessionary edits for steaming purposes) and has the full intro/ outro (absent from the streaming edit and it's aforementioned instrumental version). There is the "Naked Woman Version", which is the complete vocal Acapella. There is the "Transcendental Woman Version" which is a prelude/ pre-intro to the "Doing The Most Woman" Version's Intro. There is also a stupid sped up/ chipmunk version of the steaming edit called the "Super Woman Version" for TikTok type purposes (best ignored). Call me crazy but when music fans have been around as long as we have, we do (on rare occasions) notice when certain creative energies re-align (either by accident or design) and a songwriter on occasion (in this case 40 years after the fact) will find themselves (to all intent and purposes) visited by and authentically working with the same creative energies as a prior songwriter from decades previously (whether they realise it in the moment or not). What I'm saying is, I believe this is one of these very rare such occasions and whilst this composition has a different rhythm (I am talking in terms of creative energy not plagiarism) and from this perspective, I am in no doubt this song is born from the songwriters behind it accidentally tapping in to and channeling the same creative energy that birthed Donna's song "She Works Hard For The Money". I don't know if you also hear this in the song's spirit and whilst this is not the energy of a 'homage' (and absolutely not a request to use its rhythm, quite the contrary) I wondered if, given your knowing this reference point and your knowledge of what a 12" mix is supposed to do, encompassing its instrumental build, passages and the moments of frisson those are intended to create (which is a musical understanding and a talent that has been lost by the TikTok generation), I simply ask, that if the spirit takes you (and only if), then I would very much appreciate it if (with reference to the aforementioned guide pertaining to the un-assembled, un-extrapolated "Jigsaw" pieces of this EP) if you could follow the traditional structure of an old skool 12" extended vocal mix and assemble this jigsaw together in to a 8 - 10 minute long extended version. As you know Capitol probably would not be able to tell the difference between crappy tastemaker "remixes" and the old skool extended mix format and they would likely mistake the latter for the former and get it wrong. https://www.qobuz.com/gb-en/album/womans-world-ep-katy-perry/u0wu7yrnsd49b Edited July 15 by Dante Silva 1 1
gui Posted July 15 Posted July 15 What's with this Transcendental Woman mix? Like it's atmospheric and very different from the song itself
Dante Silva Posted July 15 Posted July 15 (edited) 20 minutes ago, gui said: What's with this Transcendental Woman mix? Like it's atmospheric and very different from the song itself It's a "Dub", the term they have omitted to use from their descriptor. It's a longer semi-isolated portion of the song's production buried under the surface of the full version. A "Dub" mix in music is a version of a song that typically focuses on the instrumental elements and removes or reduces the vocal parts. It often highlights the musical aspects like the beat, rhythm, or instrumentation. On the other hand, a "Vocal" mix emphasizes the vocals of a song, making them more prominent and central to the track. The purpose of a "Dub" mix is to provide an alternative version of a song that allows the listener to focus more on the music itself without the distraction of vocals, whereas a "Vocal" mix showcases the lyrics and vocal performance. Show her support as the hate she is getting is disgusting especially when many of her peers did the same without the same response. I get Katy's flopping but it feels cruel to suggest her peers are now nobodies like Lourdiz and Snow Wife. 1 2
