They don't get paid millions per se, lol.  But it's a nice salary if you sign an artist that hits it BIG.  Pretty much set for life.  I know someone who's an A&R for major multi-decade superstar and that's the only artist he's ever worked with.  
 

But then you have some A&Rs who get hired by a label and have to work up the ranks.  Those people don't get paid well.  
 

It all depends on how you come in the game + the artists (or songs) you bring to the table.  Nowadays prob even harder b/c market is oversaturated.
