Paddy Posted July 14 Posted July 14 It definitely was a good album concept - calling it circus, after well Britney's tough years, and great comeback. Overall, the album has great songs but also not so great ones. But it definitely is solid piece of work. I would leave Radar out... nonsense putting it on this album too.
Richie.Valdez Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Circus is a great album with excellent singles and videos. 1
Glamthony Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Yes, after 2007 she needed hits and Circus is filled with certified HITS, every song would've been successful if they pick it as a single, even the bonus tracks are top tier pop carefree bops, this álbum is the perfect balance between Blackout and Femme Fatale. 1
HeavyMetalAura Posted July 14 Posted July 14 I'm a Circus Apologist. I think the album cover is amazing, the first three singles rival Blackout's trio of singles as her best three single run (but Blackout wins slightly bc of Gimme More alone), and every single track including the bonus tracks is excellent except for My Baby. Is it boundary pushing or an objective masterpiece like Blackout? No, but it does what it was set out to do perfectly. 2
Club classic Posted July 14 Posted July 14 I love Circus with all my heart and I also love the album cover and overall album design. I agree, some tweaks could have been made to the tracklist, Quicksand, Amnesia, Trouble and Phonography deserved standard placement. 2
sexyback007 Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) My only complaint is how incredibly strong some of the bonus tracks were (Trouble is brilliant and Phonography was my jam at some point lol) and that they should've been in the standard version, especially over My Baby. Great album and era nonetheless, truly felt like a celebration that encapsulates the best of Britney. It's also undeniably among her best eras video wise. Edited July 14 by sexyback007 1
James_Dean Posted July 14 Posted July 14 The cover is gorgeous and the record is Top 3 in her discography 2
RobDeWittBukater Posted July 14 Posted July 14 (edited) Circus was a great follow-up to Blackout in my opinion because it accomplished three vital things: 1) It continued the sound of Blackout, so as to satisfy the critics who had received that album warmly. Circus, Kill the Lights, Mannequinn and Phonography were all great continuations of Blackout's jagged, glitchy electro sound. 2) It treaded new ground, so as to keep Britney current and "in" with the zeitgeist. Compared to the more skeletal, Timbaland-esque production of the Blackout singles, Womanizer was a bigger, fuller production that was very much in line with the EDM sounds that would dominate 2009 (Gaga, Black Eyed Peas etc). Songs like Unusual You, Out from Under and Amnesia had a whimsical, strangely detached kind of sadness to them, which is a vibe that makes Circus unique (and my favorite Britney album ). You just could not get those gorgeous, understated midtempos at the Blackout store, no you could not! 3) It included callbacks to Britney's early career, so as to satisfy fans who had nostalgia for her early aughts heyday. Blur was a fun throwback to Early Mornin', If U Seek Amy saw her reunite with Max Martin, etc. And that all makes a perfectly executed, catch-all comeback album. unclefloprry Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Yes, it was the light after the darkness. Fun music, fun aesthetics, fun videos, fun performances... everything was on point.
єѕℓαм Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Ofc it gave us pop perfection like Womanizer, Circus & If U Seek Amy
dman4life Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Perfect follow up in my opinion. Blackout had more bops but she sounded a bit more engaged on Circus.
Technicolor Posted July 14 Posted July 14 I really like it, it's my second most played Britney album. Amnesia, Unusual You and Circus are all top tier songs.
DemDam92 Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Blackout is iconic and obviously she wouldn't be able to beat it but Circus is totally good. I only hate the Circus song
A Million Lights Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Of course. It has some bad songs like My Baby but still it's a solid effort I just wished they milked the era more. Re-release it with 3 being the lead, made Shattered Glass a single... 1

Most people label it as a weak record, but I think it's a pretty good one. I would just change that awful cover (maybe to something like the one above) and make some alterations to the tracklist… 1. Womanizer 2. Circus 3. Quicksand 4. Kill The Lights 5. Shattered Glass 6. If U Seek Amy 7. Amnesia 8. Unusual You (with way less auto-tune) 9. Blur 10. Mannequin 11. Trouble 12. My Baby So, what do you guys think?! Is it a good follow-up to "Blackout"?! The pic above would have been a great tour cover. The tour cover would have been the PERFECT album cover. So layered in meaning. that said, Blackout was Britney. Circus was a comeback album and they focused on radio friendly singles and pretty much giving a consolidation of her prior records. My ideal tracklist: 1. Womanizer 2. Circus 3. Lace and leather 4. Trouble 5. Blur 6. Kill the lights 7. Phonography 8. If u seek amy 9. Unusual you 10. Mannequin 11. Quicksand 12. Amnesia 13. Mmm papi 14. Rock me in 15. My baby 16. Out from under sung with passion. My ideal single line up: 1st single: Womanizer 2nd single: Circus 3rd single: Unusual you 4th single: If u seek amy re-release with 3 new songs 1st single: 3 2nd single: Out from under radio edit Edited July 14 by slw84

There was an agreement for it to be a single from Blackout but well...so they had to include it on Circus or get sued. Chile I would have taken the suit. Sue me I'l pay you. Radar is a great track on Blackout. For some reason, I don't listen to it on Circus. It's misplaced. that said so is Blur. Blur would have been perfect on Blackout but wasn't recorded in time. Radar deserves track #3 on blackout but has no place on Circus but it was their best choice at the time.
Madaboutmusic Posted July 14 Posted July 14 A brilliant pop album, it strikes a fantastic balance between re-establishing her as a pop princess with undeniable pop classics whilst keeping the weirdness and experimentation that she started on In The Zone and continued into Blackout, but keeping it all lighter and brighter in tone overall to help distance her from the difficult period she'd just come out of. I just wish Out From Under had been a single. Yes it's very lightweight and simple on its surface but time has been very kind to it - it remains one of my most played tracks from the album to this day, and I think a big pop ballad at that time would have been very popular on radio, music video channels etc, particularly from Britney coming out of 2007 and paired with a stunning video of beauty shots (and god was she stunning in this era). I would also have loved Unusual You to close out the era. My perfect singles run would have been only slightly different but would have really given the album a full chance to shine and showcase its variety and quality across the board: Womanizer Circus Out From Under If U Seek Amy Unusual You
nostalgic Posted July 14 Posted July 14 It's an EXCELLENT follow-up and even more impressive when you realize the personal turmoil she was going through at the time to even be able to create an album at all. I also think it's one of the few Britney albums where her natural vocal ability gets a better chance to shine (Blur, Out from Under). For me, Circus is definitely Britney at her best artistically. 1
Alex Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Yes however I feel like this album would be more acclaimed if a lot of the exclusive bonus tracks were put onto the standard version of the album. Amnesia, Trouble, Quicksand etc.
ShadeIena Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Circus sounds like a watered down Blackout, even some songs are scraps of that album. Femme Fatale felt like stronger successor. The music videos? performances? Circus was definitely an improvement , which Femme Fatale lacked
