Dark Miracles Posted July 14 Posted July 14 She debuted with a 6 week #1 and got exponentially bigger every year after for 6 years before winding down. That's not short-lived nor is it anything to scoff at considering her peers
tjspy Posted July 14 Posted July 14 This bullying is getting tired. istg the gays sometimes are terrible persons, I feel really out of place in the community these days. And I'm not even a Katycat, but this is just mean and a reflection of how we are - because in real life we're not that different. Sorry for the overreflection in a random thread, but couldn't we be better... 3
JoeAg Posted July 14 Posted July 14 she should've gone the Kelly Clarkson route and continued to serve bops by expanding her writing teams and adapting to more mature aesthetics and sounds while still being herself and not being afraid to make some questionable sonic choices but realizing that she can be versatile and STILL retain her artistic footprint! all at the same time, accepting that she might not be as commercially successful as she once was. but wait… nvm, cause she's not talented enough if we're being honest and I could've replaced Kelly's name there with Kesha or Gaga or Carly or Charli or Lana or Robyn or just so many other popstars who literally can get it through their respective skins that there's no shame in "flopping" (in a traditional commercial sense) as long as you stick to your guns and remain a likable and confident human being, cause all of that coalesces to parts of the true meaning of what a popstar can and should be. Katy is just coming off as tryhard and inauthentic, when in contrast she could be reveling in her fanbase and her previous achievements by actually releasing good, inspired material with a team of solid people. it's all about her choices and clearly she's got bubbles goin on up there
JoeAg Posted July 14 Posted July 14 as someone who's been writing music since he was 8 years old, i've taken the time over the years to reflect on my own floptastic but fun musical journey and i've gained an easy view into the fact that i've had my own creative ups and downs. idk if other musicians feel the same way, but I do love looking back and tracing my growth and all the messy pitfalls that've occurred along the way. of course, as an indie artist, i don't have a fanbase to really gauge all this progress, so i've been most able to bring it unto myself. intuition, trusting your gut, is what can really bring about incredible art once you've turned off some of your outside insecurities. it's different when you're a famous popstar like Katy because you have people talking all the time, but I remember seeing someone mention this the other day: she's just lost that inner voice it seems. she has some good songs under her belt like Mannequin and Thinking of You and Teenage Dream and Walking on Air and Birthday and Roulette, but she gets too caught up in thinking that her former goofy aesthetics are gonna work forever. I'm obviously not residing in her mind so I can't be entirely positive about this, but that's how it's feeling to me when I just analyze how her career has been going
JoeAg Posted July 14 Posted July 14 as disappointed as I am about her working with puke, i'm not gonna deny that her career is nothing to scoff at. her success was amazing! Teenage Dream was such an exciting era to live through, especially as a 13-15 year old little queer boy! like, that's history but yeah, when it comes to commercial success, in an unbiased light she never adapted in a spot on way that would've been beneficial in THAT regard

One is a 2 minute tropical bop made for streaming with a rap feature to make it more accessible and was #1 on every playlist. The other is a ballad skewed to 35+ year old adults, that never got above 30m playlisting or peaked top 10 outside 3 countries. Ballads always win ! There's too many points to list but the big one is the streaming era coming in. Only bey and Rihanna kept their cool factor, and Taylor stayed away from it and was still young enough. 2015-2018 was rough on the MPG, and doing witness sealed her fate. Mariah and Doja working with Luke should've been dragged just as hard for that mess, but Katy gets the brunt
Bimbo Posted July 14 Posted July 14 It was bound to happen. When you have zero talent and rely on your looks... 3 2
Digitalism Posted July 14 Posted July 14 How many times has this thread been made? The Hilary thing The visual becoming even campier The horrible haircut Then during smile she didn't even tried and got pregnant If she had the level of promo she had now for NRO it would have been a top 5. Follow that with HIH and CAL and you have an ok era. Her image was already destroyed by then tho

One he's a nobody. Two it didn't even flow right. Also, if we add YouTube + Spotify, it looks more equal. Also, what about the rest of the album? It starts to look more equal there. Ugh I hate doing this though. Million Reasons is the best song on that album and is better than CTTR (in my opinion). But CTTR isn't the best song on the album, not even top 5. For me I think there are songs that I prefer on the album over MR.
