OOTB has cute singles ma'am dont get me wrong!

Some of the album tracks however

 :clack:

If You Can Afford Me?

Im still Breathing?

A Cup Of Coffee?

I Think I'm Ready?

Lost? fuckin LOST?

i mean you can have your own subjective taste sis but you can't trash One of The Boys as if it doesn't have Katheryn's best lyricism and raw artistry in spades. That's her best album as a body of work with a strong pov and has something to say more than any album after it.

I love that this album is only 30 minutes long, I played it 3 times back to back today at the gym :celestial6:

You could literally quote that entire album and its bonus tracks, it truly was such a special era. I've loved all of Katy's albums but I don't think any of them will hold a place in my heart the way that OOTB does.

It also gave us this gem:

Talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender, **** on it, vomit on it, eat it, give birth to it.

Like this album is good. Its not a masterpiece but its definitely not a 35/100. Just ridiculous. Its a 7+ for me

Agreed. I wouldve loved for it to be stronger but its by no means a bad project.

I listen to the MTV Unplugged album a lot during autumn / winter as it's so cosy. I hope she is still planning to release an acoustic album next as her vocals have gotten so strong the past few years and they'd really shine on stripped back songs.

As one of the biggest Kats turned OKHs, I finally listened to it and am not surprised to say that I didn't enjoy it. That being said, I liked three songs. Truth is one of her best tracks in years and a really nice bop that I've been playing all day, obsessed with it and I hope she pushes it as a single because it has potential. I also liked Nirvana (albeit it being very generic) and I'm His, He's Mine (which I've already admitted to coming around to after initially hating it and now I really love it and wish it was the lead). Those are the only three songs I kept.

When it comes to the rest, it ranges from bland and forgettable to ugly. I've already expressed how much I hate Rapist's World and Jailtimes so I won't reiterate my thoughts on those but Gimme Gimme, Crush and Artifical somehow managed to be even worse than them - the first being super repetitive and disposable with some of the worst songwriting by both Katy and 21 Savage (wtf is that Amazon lyric :rip:), the second being a basic Catch My Breath by Kelly Clarkson ripoff which made me realize Dr. Puke has an affinity for copy and pasting better songs (ex: Can't Do Better by Kim Petras being a direct rip-off of Sooner or Later by queen Michelle Branch), and the third is a cheap attempt at cashing in on E.T nostalgia but lacks the punch it had and instead is just a noisy mess that not even JID (one of my favorite rent-a-rappers at the moment) could save with his verse where he sounds like he's fighting on the instrumental. I was also really disappointed in Wonder which everyone and their mother was raving about but the "inspirational" lyrics and annoying ass child singing made it even cornier than the "Open sesame" mess she did on the closer from two albums ago and it is drenched in the same stink of a sarcastic, wannabe ~hopeful ballad montage~ from a TV show (sorta like AHS: Delicate's hilarious #It'sMyBody™ campaign) to make up for it (though it's not as outright terrible as some of the others #ThankYouStargate&Cirkut). Gorgeous isn't too bad and there's a decent song in there but it sounds too much like Unholy off Temu for me to consider saving it and All The Love is just a basic and boring track you'd hear users on r/retailhell complain about constantly playing during their grueling Kohls shift.

All in all, an absolute mess of an album and it's shocking that someone who used to pump out such great earcandy with strong hooks and production ran to a rapist to churn out some of the worst tracks of her entire career. At least 3/11 songs were good :clap3:

I love the use of the child's voice in "WONDER" - as it really adds another layer of depth to the song. For me, that song is already solidified as a classic in her catalogue. I just know I'll be able to listen to it in 10 years time and still get chills.

143 for life Katy.

It's not good tbh. The streams would look a lot better if any of the singles did decently. The fact WW barely has more streams than the album tracks means that the streams are hard carried by the fanbase

Even if I don't agree, it's nice to read a comprehensive review of just the music!

Also can someone explain two me what OKH, Khia or Kii mean? :gaycat6:I feel so out of the loop

I don't expect everybody to enjoy the album as all art is subjective, so I also appreciated that they at least made the effort to write a comprehensive review. Although the "WONDER" and "ARTIFICIAL" slander may have made me malfunction.

I also have no idea what that stood for either so I'm glad you asked. :rip:

OKH = Obsessed Katy Hater. I learned that O_H means "Obsessed (insert noun) Hater" months ago when I joined :rip:

Khia = This slang term meant to describe someone who is unknown/flop and is based on the rapper Khia (My Neck, My Back) and how she drifted into irrelevancy after one bit hit. The term "Khia Asylum" you see floating around on here and Stan Twitter is a way to describe where flop artists reside and they occasionally move back in and out depending on how successful each subsequent era is (ex: Dua is now viewed as a Khia Asylum member after the floppage of Radical Optimism :rip: )

Kii = It means something something hilarious (ex: "Ava Max pretending to know Elton John's discography in that interview was such a kii")

I hope this helps :heart2: I didn't get it either initially dd :rip:
