can someone please explain to me how this song is 5x platinum? Its US streams are around 200M, so 150K SPS and we know it didn't sell 4M downloads :ahh:

Typo?

Could Wild Thoughts  be a contender for next number 1?@simmnfierzig

Right now it seems like the only thread for "Despacito". But still long run till "Despacito" lost its pretty big points average and "Wild Thoughts" climb to the top. And if so, this is just the case when no one even bigger releases.

Yeah it certainly seems stronger than all the other stuff out right now not named Despacito. Not that that is saying super much...

Seeing how high Despacito's points are, does that mean its fall from #1 points wise will be a sudden collapse? or will it just slowly decline?

I really don't see how Wild thoughts is going to be able to bridge that gap seeing as they threw everything at it for week 1. Rihanna isn't about to live perform it and the video card has been used.

We have to just rely on huge airplay gains and stable sales/streaming rather than burst of points one week to take the #1 :jonny: and just hope it can out last Despacito when that starts to fall and nothing else threatens it

"Despacito" will not colapse suddenly - it will slowly decline each week just as "Shape Of You".

If "Wild Thoughts" can sell steadily and be streamed steadily (radio is obviously here for it) I can see this topping the chart at some point (if Taylor or someone else won't release sooner). This song can be another "Starboy"/"That's What I Like" song.

shook ok :jonny:

I was hoping everyone would just burn out on Despacito having had it so over played/streamed these last 8 weeks nnn

I feel like WT will peak at #2.

I don't think Rih is getting another #1 until her lead single

It was a typo. Starboy went 5x plat. But 200m streams = 1,333,333 song project units (divide by 150).

The gap between #1 and #2 is like the gap between #2 and #50.

Hell beat mariah.

So why be on a Spanish song? Y'all love to talk about cultural appropriation for other artist though.

it doesn't matter it was spanish or polish or german.

he just heard song, like it so he asked if he can be part of it. just for fun.

if that would happen in Poland and he would heard like Natalia Nykiel song and ask her can he be in remix of that song and if she would agree - so be it. It doesn't mean he need to learn all polish words for Nykiel's song or what. he did it just for fun and that's all.

also that's nothing bad for Luis Fonsi and his pals. That song was already huge and Justin just give if final push in U.S.

for that matter, in Poland Despacito is number one song for like month already and radios are playing orginal version, not justin's.

Based on recent trends of long week #1's

July 8 - Despacito's 7th week at #1

July 15 - 8th

July 22 - 9th

July 29 - 10th

August 5 - 11th

Agust 12 - 12th

August 19 - 13th

August 26 - 14th

September 2 - 15th ???

September 9 - 16th ???

September 16 - *breaks Mariah's record*  ???

Taylor needs to release at least August 11th or 18th Friday exactly to dethrone Despacito...if she releases later than August 18th, Despacito is on course for Mariah's record

you are actually wrong. you are using Billboard's dates but.

monday June 19 - despacito scored sixth week, so:

June 26 - 7th

July 3 - 8th

July 10 - 9th

July 17 - 10th

July 24 - 11th

July 31 - 12th

August 7 - 13th

August 14 - 14th

August 21 - 15th (data from August 11 to 17)

August 28 - 16th (data from August 18 to 24)

so if Taylor (or someone else) won't release August 18 Despacito will align Mariah record

data from August 25 to 31 will be the most important because if that time Despacito still will be winning, then on September 4 Despacito will score 17th week at #1 and will break Mariah Carey record for longest #1 at hot 100

Ahh I get it, its confusing..but yeah im basing it on Billboard's issue date...thats why Taylor needs to release on August...

What's your thoughts about Wild Thoughts as a contender for Despacito?

@simmnfierzig @FanOfPop yeah, I think it could be like starboy/that's what i like chart run, after Despacito's 10-12th week at #1, If Wild Thoughts stays stable &  with no big releases, it could tops hot 100 with all metrics support

Unless radio stopped supporting it like they did with "Chained To The Rhythm" or something really horrible happens with its streams I can see this definitely top the chart but it will take its time.

Imo Wild Thoughts won't top the HOT 100. Look at I'm The One also by DJ Khaled. It debuted at number one with over 550 points and it's still number two this week. Based on predictions WT won't even debut top 5 this week. If it can't get above 400 points during its debut week (with a mv) it really can't top the hot 100 in the long run, especially because there won't be another music video to boost song streams later on.

A lot of songs don't top the chart at the first week. Rihanna herself didn't do it with "Work" and the music video was released the same day as the audio (if I'm correct).
