Kukai Posted June 14 Posted June 14 I had an interesting conversation with a Swiftie irl about this. They claimed Taylor is more talented than Beyonce and Lady Gaga because of her songwriting and ability to 'connect' with her audience. Do y'all agree with this? How talented do you think Taylor Swift is in comparison to her popstar peers? 1
Richie.Valdez Posted June 14 Posted June 14 She is more intelligent than musically talented. Her songwriting used to be great when she was in her early 20's but she neglected her own growth and evolution as a songwriter by still writing juvenile songs on her mid 30's in order to please her audience which she knows very well and that's why she is more intelligent than musically talented. 8 1 2
Space Cowboy Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Not very talented. Mediocre vocalist. Mediocre dancer. Mediocre performer. And she's highly overrated as a lyricist. 3 3 1
EdgeofTeeth Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Like someone said, she's very intelligent but I find her extremely superficial and surface-level as an artist. Her business instinct is her primary talent. 5 1 1

OreGuy Posted June 14 Posted June 14 anyway is she good at the following: songwriting: yes (amazing storyteller) instruments: yes (even with her all 4 note chords) stage presence: no (she just stands and stares, no performer aura) dancing: no (she tries but still stiff) singing: no (she lip syncs) acting: no (miserable) producing: no (jack does it for her lbr) directing: no (she tries but can't even compare to Marry The Night which Gaga self-directed) aka not much. she always sells a narrative more than what she can actually offer 1
aotwbys Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Being able to transition successfully from country to pop is rare
Comedor Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Talent for a pop girl would be singing, dancing and writing. If they all have the same weight, then it's a 3.3/10 for Taylor.
Kristie Kuwa Posted June 14 Posted June 14 Not talented at all, shes just a narcistic manipulator. A true master of mindgames and manipulation. 1 2 2
kimberly Posted June 14 Posted June 14 she's highly overrated. I think, earlier on in her career, her talent compared to her age was much more impressive. with the lack of growth in her vocal and performance capabilities, and diminishing returns in her songwriting in her last two albums... I'd say a 6/10. she's more talented than average, but not by a huge margin by any means. 4

She is however extremely good with her business instincts, she saw the writing on the wall and ran away with it and look where it's taken her. A smart b!tch if I ever saw one Edited June 14 by LOTF
Mordecai Posted June 14 Posted June 14 can't sing can't dance awful live performer her lyricism is praised as being shakespearean but what lyrics i have heard from her are nothing special so in conclusion 2
Breathe On Moi Posted June 14 Posted June 14 like forreal, I think the whole penmanship thing is overblown. It's not like she's writing Shakespeare level of poetry, but is portrayed that way for some reason. Every other artist always comment on her business decision making abilities, and that's the only thing I agree when it comes to her.
hallucinate Posted June 14 Posted June 14 2/10 1 point for being able to hold a note and another 1 point for songwriting skills
Kh-Loud Posted June 14 Posted June 14 She could had never be able to get a record deal if it wasn't for her privilege - not when home girl couldn't sing on key for decade!!
Price of Fame Posted June 14 Posted June 14 She's written some good songs (although not lately and her idea of pop music is generally juvenile and ridiculous) that's about it
lonnie Posted June 14 Posted June 14 She has some good songs, her songwriting is highly overrated and has actually gotten worse with time, she's not the strongest singer but she sounds good on the record and her voice can be pleasant, she's a horrible dancer and should never dance in a serious way, she's a mediocre instrumentalist on both the piano and guitar, and overall she's good at what she does which is giving a good enough story through her music to her fans which they resonate with. 1
