Popular Post KatyPrismSpirit Posted June 4 Popular Post Posted June 4 The 25 Photos That Defined the Modern Age Quote A group of experts met to discuss the images that have best captured — and changed — the world since 1955. On July 29, 2022, when Beyoncé released "Renaissance," the first of what she's envisioned as a three-act magnum opus (act two, "Cowboy Carter," was released this March), the public was exhausted after two and a half years of pandemic restrictions and unprecedented change to their daily routines. They were stir-crazy and impatient for the dance floor. Beyoncé embraced the sounds of house music pioneered by Black and queer D.J.s, as well as the subversive, high-gloss styling of ballroom culture. The singer appears on the album's cover in a Giannina Azar-designed silver rope dress, sitting astride a horse covered in mirrors. The image was taken by Carlijn Jacobs, a Dutch fashion photographer interested in the art of masquerade and maximalist glamour, and alludes to both rodeo and royalty. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/03/t-magazine/photography-robert-frank-gordon-parks.html 6 8 6 21

Popular Post Jay07 Posted June 4 Popular Post Posted June 4 (edited) It is absolutely an iconic image of 21st century music. I can understand why fans of artists who couldn't create an iconic moment if their lives depended on it are quick to devalue Beyonce and say people only pretend to like a Black genius for "woke points", it's been a constant across history and exemplified wonderfully in the rest of that article. Digitalism Posted June 4 Posted June 4 The is embarrasing in general tho Only like 5 pictures are even known let alone impactful
liquiddiamonds Posted June 4 Posted June 4 So unserious. Love Bey but some photography classics and historical shots known worldwide and this journalist setting her up for clicks by making her the sole mainstream pop culture choice 1 1
Burn Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Period. The fumes already. Bey's iconography is on another level. She knows how to create impactful and memorable images - like MJ and The Beatles. Not many arTistS have that skill. 2 2 2 10
Khal Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Kind of funny when you see the list and everything else that is on it. I feel like for a pop culture related moment to land on a list with such history altering events, it should have been a moment that had legit worldwide impact, and not a meme-d horse If we're going have a Bey moment on the list, should have been ST (that actually had an impact in changing something).
Bubble Tea Posted June 4 Posted June 4 That's a very lovely thing of them to say but putting this boring ass album anywhere near photos like the famous Tiananmen Square "tank man" photo is just disgraceful. Don't get me wrong it is a great cover art but let's find a modicum of sanity here I beg of you. 2 1

Album Leak Posted June 4 Posted June 4 (edited) I am genuinely flabbergasted about this. How is Renaissance album cover in any way shape or form at the same level as the Falling Man or the man that stood in front of the tanks in Tiananmen Square? I can think of several important moments in USA pop culture history that have more cultural impact and importance to the modern age than that. But reading the article on why they chose Renaissance cover of all things seems.. pretty whatever. So okay Renaissance, you go girl lol. Edited June 4 by Album Leak 3 1
