She felt no need to quantify being a woman with the modifier of "trans" before. She quite literally makes it clear a trans woman is just one type of woman, like cis women, and the word "women" easily works to describe both without hassle or harm. She is repeatedly okay with being referenced as just a "woman", over and over:

Here she is literally speaking at a Republican Women's event in California, talking about the inclusivity she can bring as a woman!

It wasn't until she became a conservative MAGA grifter - after her failed run for office in California - that these rhetorical tricks started being used.

Also a search on Catlyn's twitter shows her not using the term "trans woman" as you describe. Except for a blog entry from 2016 now deleted from her website:

In fact, she actively now goes out of her way to never refer to herself as a "woman", whether just as a "woman" *or* "trans woman".

If she's talking about her biological sex, well yea she's sort of correct but that's not how she should be responding to questions like that.  If she reaaaally wants to talk about this, she should be saying "I was born a male, have male chromosomes, but have transitioned to become a woman and fully identify as such" or something along those lines.  But seriously, she shouldn't need to say any of this at all.

I'm gonna be completely honest as someone whose best friend in the world is a trans man who i'm pretty much inseparable from, we've had a LOT of discussions about gender and our community and i'm not gonna say it's nearly as bad as people using "it" but sometimes when some of y'all start using "they" for a binary trans person after they've expressed their pronouns in the past i get a little 🤨

 

but obviously that's a digression and not as important to talk about in this moment but idk. i've just known a lot of trans people who've gotten frustrated by that happening

 

ANYWAY! I digress! yeah, like i said before, what Caitlyn said feels like self-hatred and i stand by that. I don't like her, but I can't say that it doesn't still feel concerning in a lot of ways
