Mezik Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Renaissance is a once in a generation iconic album. Cowboy Carter is just an album. 1
Yakult Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Cowboy Carter is album of the year so far but Renaissance is album of the decade. 2

ATRL Moderator Bloo Posted May 24 ATRL Moderator Posted May 24 Nope, Cowboy Carter is the more artistically profound album for me. Renaissance never did it for me. It was fun on tour, but I never turn that album on.
bringdanoize Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Obviously. CC is too safe and bland. Her worst album by far.
Mitsouko Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I knew this would be the case before I pressed play on Country Cosplay 2
HarajukuPrincess Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I mean it's like comparing Diamonds (Renny) and Gold (CC). They're both still awesome
judasmonster Posted May 24 Posted May 24 country isnt my cup of tea so i knew this after first listen..although there are a few good tracks on CC i go back to
Blade Runner Posted May 24 Posted May 24 (edited) Well, yes... Both are EXCELLENCE tho. Edited May 24 by Blade Runner 1
Heldenzeit Posted May 24 Posted May 24 True, but also both are overrated and Bey's true genius shows on 4 and Self-titled
worldwide angel Posted May 24 Posted May 24 mmm no its not by a large margin but Cowboy Carter > Renaissance 1
Gladiator Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I don't agree personally, but I can see the case and understand especially depending on the music someone primarily listens to. Cowboy Carter is more along the lines of the sound I tend to gravitate towards, so I prefer it over Renaissance.
BGKC Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Well yea, as a gay man who likes to have fun and gyrate it was right up my alley. The album felt like a coke filled celebration. CC's problem was that it doesn't have a major target audience to support it. A lot of country fans already had a negative predisposition to dismiss it because it's Beyoncé regardless of the quality, so without any major support from them it just feels like it's something for casual listeners and fans alike to simply appreciate. It's not very exciting as an era at all. I would argue that it will translate really well on tour tho. I just know she's going to be serving bigger and better vocals and choreo than the Ren tour. So I can see her elevating peoples perception of the album that way, but until/if then, the era feels like a complete dud. 1
Sadie Saxton Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Oooooh. I do have to say I agree. But Renaissance is truly just That Girl
chiliam Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Since day 1. Renaissance is my fave Beyonce album while CC is at the very bottom. Its just not my cup of tea. 1
