They rated the album as bad, and people believe it's bad. In reality, it's way better than Prism, but the promotion strategy fails, the singles choice fails, and it leads Katy to this horrible chart placement. Yes they unfairly panned the album, but it's not like metacritic makes any difference in the grand scheme of things, look at TD, PRISM etc. It's just some people really just don't like Katy. I tried so hard with my 2 best girlfriends and they listened to 1-2 songs form Witness and just said that they can't LISTEN to Katy's voice And honestly some songs could've sounded even better if someone else sang them I get where they are coming from. You can't really compare peaks either, because for example Bad Romance is much bigger than 80% of songs that went number 1. Paparazzi peaked at number 5 and has sold as much as many number 1s and so on. Also Katy's first week is much bigger than those 4 albums, so it doesn't matter that much where she is 2nd week compared to the others in their 2nd weeks.
