1989 (original version) is a lovely album, but BEYONCÉ is on another level.

'BEYONCÉ' is better, but not Bey's best album.

Absolutely not. BEYONCE is one of my favorite albums of all time. 1989 is fine but so... vanilla.

1989 is given A LOT on here. The singles were massive and there are some stone cold classics on there (Style, Blank Space to name a few) but Welcome to New York is the opening track :rip: see also: Bad Blood. The fact that we're also judging the horrendous TV is also a huge slap in the face; the production on BEYONCÉ is miles ahead of 1989 and is more adventurous than anything Taylor has done in her career. Argue with the wall

nnn you know I think you'd have a stronger case with this one if the opening song on ST wasn't a literal Sia Rihject

A vessel for a great vocal performance, which is difficult to give, not everybody can give that

Just because Beyonce stopped the world with her surprise drop does not mean it's the better album. But let's be real, both of these albums didn't really deserve a spot on this list; they both have better options.

Yes, and Apple Music agrees too, Maybe Tidal will rank ST higher tho when they post their top 100 :ryan3:

I hate to say it, but yes. BEYONCÉ's release gimmick strategy was the most notable thing about the era, not the music.

I mean wasn't it literally Katy -> Rihanna -> Beyonce? In that company, I would think basically anyone could give the required performance. Taylor would never since the lyrics were so soulless and impersonal, but I guess that's something that a lot of ST suffers from unfortunately.

Cute for Beyonce's A&R guy though, it had a respectable top 20 Bubbling Under peak and made it into the top 40 on a few of Bey's top radio formats after being pushed as a single, so it clearly resonated with audiences and did it's job :gaycat4:

Both are great albums, I'm leaning a bit more towards ST tho.

Yes 1989 is better but that Apple Music list is tragic :rip:

Katy's voice would crack (something you know a lot about as a Swiftie) trying to sing PH, lbr. Rih would just hide under Sia's demo.

Bey is the only one who can turn a mid composition (the only one in ST, since the rest are 11/10) into a good song. A Mariah/Whitney/Toni tea.

You're right in saying Taylor would/could never, but idk if that's the reason...

I like both kinda on the same level

But the fillers on 1989 are a little bit worse.

And yet Pretty Hurts is still a better song than Welcome to New York so how sad for you and Tay that she got shown up by a "Sia Rihject"
