That's truly the way to go nowadays. Taylor really did that.

You know exactly what you're doing and it's lame

They're completely different strategies girl. One is a surprise album, all the others are not.

The strategy is to announce your album months in advance, release the cover, variants, title but not say a single thing about the sound of the album, which is not what ST did.

Their release strategy is a direct response to huge artists like Adele, Harry, having record-breaking lead singles while having a weak album debut on streaming. Once people listen to a lead single, it satisfies their need to further listen to the artist. So they pay the album no attention after that.

This has nothing to do with ST.

Great numbers for Billie  :clap3:

Lunch could have been a #1 debut for her in the US but the top 3 is so strong right now with Million dollar baby, Kendrick and Post/Morgan

But at least Lunch could debut in the top 5 and maybe Chichiro and Birds of a Father could snatch a top 10 debut (please let's make Birds of a Father a top 10 hit)

Also all the songs debuting in the top 20 (US Spotify) and the lowest being with 1.7 million streams  :jonny5:

She's doing better than with the HTE era

That's mostly because of vinyls and accumulating pre-orders. The original point of the argument was the death of the original album rollout with pre-release singles and heavy promo game from MPGs, which is exactly what self-titled was a catalyst for. The market just moved to streaming as the main venue of consuming and vinyl as the main pure sales format. It's the same strategy of not revealing anything about the music and surprise your fans with a full-length project at once. But I hear your point

Yes, but no. This is a direct response to 30 and Harry's House. Folklore, yes, is inspired by ST. But now, these are much different strategies and are a clear response to events that happened this decade (30 flopping on streaming while EOM breaking records). It's all about today's attention spam.

Good numbers. :clap3:

I can see this strategy of announcing albums in advance and hyping them up in the weeks leading up without actually dropping a single become more common, cause clearly it's working. Taylor knew what she was doing with 'Midnights'. :clap3:

Beyonce is 26 years into her career. Her doing similar numbers with or without more tracks is still impressive, stop turning that into a veteran drag

Very impressive numbers for Billie, especially after HTE :clap3:

Amazing debut. Wish the release date was a little later in the summer, though. Stinks that all her debuts might get buried.

Gor I was praising Billie. The ***** is only on her third album pulling these numbers. With minimum songs unlike the current trend endless album tracks :celestial5:

Wait, what blocked LUNCH at #1 Spotify Global??? She did 10M... The competition is insane rn :jonny3:

Anyway, this is impressive, it's basically twice that of HTE right? INSANE!
