I still haven't made it through the back end of The Anthology to really judge the project as a whole, despite chipping away at it on a number of occassions.

A lot of the songs fell flat for me first listen, and haven't really improved in my estimations since. Not the lyrics, which are in general a huge improvement over Midnights, but sonically a lot of the songs just feel like a chore to get through. There are some tracks I'm enjoying a lot more on repeated listens, but many of them I'm still yet to connect with. I can't really put my finger on what it is, but it feels like the magic is missing from this album in some undefinable way.

I think also as a side effect of releasing so much material in such a short window of time, you really start to notice some of the Taylorisms that grate on you and distract from the music. Any time she switches into 'intentionally cringe' lyrics is just 10x more ergregious after seeing what she's capable of with Folklore/Evermore, and there's still plenty of occassions where she uses complex/verbiose language to convey simple concepts which to me just reads as Taylor trying to draw attention to her own intelligence and songwriting ability, which frankly she is above (unless certain word choices were made for melodic/meter reasons rather than strictly to convey meaning, which is entirely possible).

I'm hoping the album will just be a grower and turn into a sleeper hit, so I haven't written it off yet. But one month in, I'm still finding it to be a slog for the most part.

Artpop and Chromatica weren't stable and rising on charts

GP reception is much more positive

Literally her most stable album on streaming

Comparison doesn't make sense

There is world outside critics score.

Taylor is at her most popular right now, of course it's going to do numbers on streaming (let's not forget the tour boost), but my comparison had nothing to do with charts and sales (which of course you had to resort to). Also notice how I said "Swifties' Chromatica", not "Taylor's Chromatica" in a sense that critics didn't think it was good and pretty much all non-stans are saying it's not very good (or even very bad), but stans are religiously convinced that it's her best or at least on par with her best. It's the same feeling as watching Monsters trying to convince everyone else that ARTPOP was on par with TFM and BTW.

Ok lol

Charts and Sales ars major benchmark of reception

Top 4 albums could easily get swapped depending on my mood though. TTPD without Anthology would probably rank below SN but above MIDnights.

It's good. As a whole I'd rank it somewhere in the high middle of her albums, but personally there are a few flaws that prevent it from sitting among her top 5.

It's 5th or 6th place for me.

Evermore, red, folklore, and 1989 are clearly ahead of it. Whether it beats Speak Now or not is up for debate and I haven't settled on its placement there. But I'd take it before Midnights, Rep, Lover, Debut, and Fearless.

this 100%

this album is really good and the only problem is that it's 2 hours long however I am really surprised to see people hating on it more than the albums that are much worse than it

Baby One More Time is Britney's most successful and longest lasting album. No one in their right mind would call it a great album. TTPD is an interesting album. But two things can be true at the same time. You can play it a lot, but still admit it has major flaws (which critics rightfully picked up upon). For me the album has 9/10 lyrics, 8/10 melodies and 3/10 production, for an overall rating of 6.5/10. Whereas for example RED would be 9/10 lyrics, 10/10 melodies and 9/10 productions. Big difference. But that's me. I'm glad the fans love it and see no flaws, the same way Monsters adore ARTPOP. Hence the comparison.

So you think you're gonna get a more fair assessment by asking stans? Besides you guys downvote any opinion that isn't praise. Here you can perhaps ignore all the "her worst album" and "her best album" takes and read some of the more sober opinions instead. Cause this album is quickly turning into Swifties' ARTPOP/Chromatica, where you guys are convinced it was misunderstood and unfairly panned because of her public persona/current popularity and that years down the line it will be proclaimed as a wonderful album etc etc.

perhaps you're not familiar enough with our fanbase but you definitely can get a net neutral opinion from us. We argue about how bad Lover v Reputation are on a semiweekly basis, trust me we have no issue expressing which albums are "weakest" to us in her discography. It's definitely less bias than people who aren't fans of her music at all

I spend enough time in the base and in the album thread to be familiar with fan takes (which are often enough just an echo chamber, especially for newest releases). Most people here are familiar enough with her music to have an informed opinion (aside from the obvious trolls), so I don't think it's fair to dismiss a general forum thread as pointless. If you look at the answers in this thread, most people rated it in the middle of her discography or in the lower half. I think that gives an idea about its reception
