ariananext Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I think Ariana's a bit scared to speak up about such things after Manchester, I fear a backlash ala Gigi Hadid would trigger her bad. But I really wish she found a way to show her support other than liking IG posts. Also The Weeknd donated a lot of money to Palestine in the past few months. I think most of them simply don't care about what happens outside of their little bubble of privilege, especially when it's considered okay not to speak up (like in this case, as Hollywood is pro-Israel). 8
Saintlor Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Because everyone in the world only cares about themselves I imagine even Palestinians themselves wouldn't care if another race were being ethnic cleansed 2 2
Pheromosa Posted May 9 Posted May 9 They're rich but not that powerful, and they do not want to get involved.
ariananext Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Also, yeah, nobody's obliged to speak up because it has nothing to do with their job, but artists also fight and cry over not being seen as humans with real feelings by the public. One expects real humans to have feelings, opinions and to actually care about things. Unless they want to be seen as humans when it works in their favor. If not, we're free to call them out for being ignorant. 4

You don't need to be an anthropologist to recognize a genocide and speak up about it. We are calling for collectivist action to pressure our government to put a stop it. These people have massive platforms that can sway millions of people. Make sense now? 1

Some celebrities who spoke out in support of Ukraine had some sort of personal connection with Ukraine (like Miley filming her video for NBLAH in Kyiv). I didn't see any threads from Ukraine supporters demanding that Taylor Swift posts the Ukrainian flag on Twitter. Palestine supporters think that the world should revolve around Palestine, and this kind of mentality is only hurting their cause behind the general public finds this behavior off-putting. Also, there's plenty of people on here advocating for Ukraine to just roll over and die and let Russia win. Imagine saying that same **** about Palestine. Edited May 9 by Rep2000 1

So not only do they get huge backlash from people who don't agree, but the target audience also turns against them. It's a bit of a lose-lose situation so its better for them to quietly support. This exactly. Nothing is ever good enough for people. 2 1
OnikaSlays Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I think most of them decided they were just going to shut up after y'all started calling everyone zionist for calling for a ceasefire. 2

Devin Posted May 9 Posted May 9 1. celebs arent obligated to speak on it 2. they could be ignorant to the situation 3. fear if they speak/chose a side they would lose fans, business deals, and connections.

It's so disappointing that some of these girls are/were leaders for so many important topics but they won't stand up for something as important as this. Lorde - Yes Dua Lipa - Yes Bilie Eilish - Yes Olivia Rodrigo - Yes Gaga - No Taylor - No Beyonce - No Adele - No Lana Del Rey - No Rihanna - No Britney Spears - No Katy Perry - No Madonna - No Shakira - No J Lo - No Mariah Carey - No Ariana Grande - No Sabrina Carpenter - No I don't know why you are getting mass disliked. I love Madonna but the fact she got up on her stage and spouting hasbara.

Poptart89 Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) Unpopular opinion, but I think the constant centering of celebrities in this situation is so odd and takes away from the real cause and the actual human suffering. This is so much bigger than some pop star. Over 40k people are dead. Who cares what Taylor Swifts opinion on the matter is? At this point it just feels like people want validation that their fave meets their own moral standards and holds similar beliefs and that is entirely self serving. It has nothing to do with helping anyone or confronting the actual human suffering. I'm sure those actually suffering are not sitting waiting with bated breath to hear what Ariana Grande or Sabrina Carpenter has to say on the matter. You know what your own personal beliefs are. Use this motivation to help impact the situation in the ways you can and stop making it about people who don't matter. Edited May 9 by Poptart89 1 1 1
HealerKirby Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Demanding celebrities to respond to these kinds of political issues is only common in the US right? As an outsider looking in, I just find it all of this really strange? Like in my country we heard about this on the news everyday but I don't hear people talking about it at all
Earth Ripper Posted May 9 Posted May 9 (edited) They're weak. If this lady can turn all of her socials into a pro-Palestine forum: ...then there really is no excuse for anyone else lol. Especially people like Madonna and Gaga who have intentionally and irritatingly prided themselves publicly to be political activists. Edited May 9 by Earth Ripper 1
Kavish Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Most celebrities are controlled by labels and their management, and ultimately the entertainment industry. Since those celebrities are money bringers, their teams cannot allow them to make moves that can jeopardise that. Even though they have personal stances, celebrities will take the safest route paved by their team in order to maintain their image, reputation, and career. Most big stars only voice out after calculated risk assessment and potential goodwill that can arise from it, and most of them will only speak on issues that will cause the least amount of damage to their company and brand. It's therefore not okay to hold a celebrity accountable for their silence on particular topics because we don't know the limitations they are being bound by from their handlers. Point the finger at the industry instead, and look for those voices from people who actually have the power to bring tangible change. 2

When BLM was starting in America, Palestinians were messaging the movement about ways of handling tear gas and anti-riot measures of the police. Palestinians alongside the Irish were the non-majority black nations that were supporting the Black rights movement, decolonisation and independence of nations. The fact that you believe that Palestinians are only Arab fascinates me. Palestine is made up of Jewish, Southern Asian, African, and Arab ancestry, it is very diverse. However, Israel and Western media are spreading this belief that they are some Arab horde that wants to destroy Western sensibilities. 1

Leave that to the activists and politicians. People who actually spread thorough, well researched, and articulate information on the matters. I don't need virtue signaling, I need action plans & reform. Thank you. I'm over the whole "WHY ISNT XXX SPEAKING OUT??????!!!" thing ATRL and social media does every week. It's genuinely annoying how this whole thing turned into the virtue signaling olympics because people are more worried about which celebrity they can attack and less about how they can actually help the ******* victims who are being bombed daily. It's got way too performative Way too quick. im free palestine all ******* day and that's MY stance. i don't need anybody to have to say it because we're at the point, where the ones that care do, and the ones that don't… don't. Us hunting down Demi Lovato or whoever l in their comments to post a palestinian flag isn't helping. We need to be attacking politicians, officials and world leaders. There's so much misguided anger and misinformation that's constantly being spread that it's actually infuriating. also can we stop using Taylor as the poster child for not speaking out on this lmao? since we "hate" billionaires, silence and not using their platform, can we start holding Beyoncé's feet to the fire as well? or do we only do it to taylor because we don't like her? 8 1 1
Gossip_Boy Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Because most of them simply are out of touch and don't give a ****. Don't get me wrong I'm pro-Palestine myself and it would be great if they spoke up, but this constant need for celebs to have an opinion on everything is a bit tiring. Not everyone wants or has to be an activist. Some people just want to give y'all their talent/art and log the **** out and that is ok. Forced activism is pointless. Stop putting celebrities on a pedestal and put that pressure on politicians instead. 1 4

The American general public doesn't care about Palestine, and only a small (but vocal) minority of college students cares about this issue. Far-left activists who are burning American flags and defacing statues are certainly not winning over the general public. So, you don't care about "the war in Ukraine" despite the fact that is undergoing an actual genocide with a much bigger number of dead civilians because Ukrainians are whiteThe far-left in a nutshell. Which global stage? I hear about Palestine all the ******* time despite the fact that I'm from Europe, which has nothing to do with Palestine. I'm sick and tired of it. Ukraine barely gets any coverage in the Western media (not to mention the Middle East). I said I care MORE about one, not that I do not care about the other. It's not BECAUSE the Ukrainians are white, it's because the Palestinians are brown. It's a very significant distinction. I'm black&brown myself and I watch as my people are treated as second class citizens across the planet, all throughout history. Yes it creates preferential treatment. No im not one of those that hates / blames white people, but I am very pro black & brown. 1
