Literally no one ever claimed she's the only one It's a fact however that she's been able to exploit that lore and build on it like no other mainstream artist has been in recent years, especially with all the easter eggs she's been dropping for over a decade, the fictional stories from folkevermore, and her re-recording all her old albums and giving them a new life. I'm not sure how claiming this is controversial. 5 1

If her legacy does not match with her actual work, then that is the definition of overrated. It's 4 AOTYs, thank you very much Fleahive! Also no one cares if you don't like her work. Her legacy won't be affected by ATRL user Fleahive not liking her music. Taylor Swift is the most popular and successful artist of our lifetime, and she has already cemented her back catalogue as absolutely legendary by its sheer success and reverence. Cope harder! 4 1 1
More Than A Melody Posted May 2 Posted May 2 I'm sorry but this is ridiculous. Literally every single artist who writes their own music has lore behind their lyrics that fans can dissect and connect to their idol's life. Most artists write from their own personal experience, and most celebrities date other celebrities so there are references going around. Doesn't Selena Gomez have a bunch of songs referencing Justin? I swear, Swifties live in such an ironclad bubble that they think she's the only artist to ever do anything. 3 1 2

Only the fans care and publications like Rolling stone give them 5 stars like they do with all legends. The GP and real critics don't care 10 days so far and haven't touched it once. Thanks for the help

Basically a friend sent me this article in an attempt to discredit Taylor. I thought I'd post it here to get a few rational takes from Swifties on why the author is wrong. Instead the thread is buzzing with OTH who didn't read (nor understand) the article trying to discredit the author and convince everyone that she is wrong. I guess some posters in here are never beating that second fanbase allegations 1

Rotunda Posted May 2 Posted May 2 The reason why Taylor reviews don't make sense has far less to do with the lore and far more to do with the fact that Taylor has come to represent the generic (White) Female Experience in a way that her supporters overidentify with and that her haters aggressively try to push against. I also don't think this is specific to Taylor. I think we've seen similar attitudes towards Beyoncé since her segue into making more purposeful driven albums, where you can't really separate the art from the cultural statement she's trying to make. I think you also see this a lot with movies in recent years. Support and dislike for movies like Barbie, Everything Everywhere All At Once, Killers of The Flower Moon, Parasite, etc. are meant to signify where you stand within the culture, and not just your opinion on the art itself. And while I do think Taylor benefits from white privilege in very clear ways, I really have tried to step away from viewing her as an example of "white mediocrity" because if we're being real, there's been a clear industry-wide acceptance of expecting less from artists (including Black genres like rap and R&B) and Taylor still gives more than most. 2 1 1

That's why these critics are struggling giving TTPD poor reviews. They want those watered down koolaid lyrics while Taylor chooses to serve us fine wine. TTPD is the type of album that will withstand the test of time like the rest of her catalog. When will they learn…. What in the "you have no idea how brilliant Private Show by Britney Spears is" kinda tea is this Can I make this a sig 1 2
The7thStranger Posted May 3 Posted May 3 The level of artifical importance assigned to this woman is laughable. 3 1
Kimi Posted May 3 Posted May 3 i also have to add the „the lore" her fans keep obsessing over is not really intresting? other than Kanye **** that's tired now too what's so amazing? a boy she dated was boring and depressed so she went for a pretentious rockstar that broke her heart? thats it? that's the story? and a rockstar sang about bikes so she rhymed wife with bike, wow. next breakup album will be filled with football references? 1 3 1
spiritboy Posted May 3 Posted May 3 Life is too short to spend time deciphering Taylor songs. I'll listen to her when she releases bops or a good pop album. TTPD is not both.
Bey'Knight Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Just give it up, take the L and come back stronger than a 90s trend. 1 1
superben Posted May 4 Posted May 4 People listen to Taylor because it's Taylor. I don't think they care about the quality of the songs themselves 1 1 1 1

Horizon Flame Posted May 5 Posted May 5 She is so bland it's not even funny. People have lost their minds. 1
woohoo Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Why are we even still engaging with OTH we're just not on their level anymore. We can probably still engage with Beyoncé and Adele Stan's because they can still hang with her but everyone else can just battle amongst each other for their 100-200k opening weeks and finger crossing for 50 million streams debut weeks
