- Taylor has now crossed 13 million album units for the current Billboard chart year, which I believe is already the biggest Billboard year in the Soundscan/Luminate era or the second biggest after her own 2023

Wait, already? :deadbanana4:

The Billboard chart year started in October just in case, but I guess we can also say "already" tbh.

The numbers are huge, her fan base is rabid and her marketing tactics are unmatched. Here's the thing: 859k vinyl sales divided by 4 variants is 216k. 891 million streams divided by 31 songs is 29 million.

The numbers are inflated dramatically. Especially when you consider it's basically a double album. You almost have to divide the numbers by 2 and then decide then again by 4 to get a true picture of how many people are really buying/listening. The people who get it get it but the people who don't will never hear this music. Maybe that guy from the Pet Shop Boys was right…

even if you divide it like that the numbers are totally insane.

859,000 vinyl LPs: 24% higher than 1989tv, 49% higher than midnights

759,500 CDs: 37% higher than 1989tv, 92% higher than midnights

21,500 cassettes: 115% higher than midnights

digital downloads 274,000: 70% higher than midnights

891.37 million streams: 62% higher than midnights, 138% higher than 1989tv

The 1989TV article didn't say how many cassettes/downloads there were.

Interesting that the smallest % increase vs. Midnights was vinyls.

Taylor Swift '1989' Nearly Half of Albums Sold in the U.S. Last Week (billboard.com)

From this article you can infer that 1989 TV sold 98k digital and from the 1.261M physical you could subtract and get the cassettes (but I'm lazy to do that math)

Hopefully, this is satire. Otherwise, we can all stop reading after your second sentence, given most people did not buy all 4 variants. :deadbanana4:

Yes, but it's important to note that the current Billboard year starts absurdly early - the entirety of 1989 TV's chart run is included.

Can't believe 1989 has finally been outdone :jonnycat:congrats to her best album ever, 3.6M is next!

Then we must divide all the other girls inflated numbers by variants as well. We must be consistent, we can't single out pop girls like Bible verses and Christians, we're better than that.

BB200 2024 YEC (Week 28/52):

1. 1989 (Taylor's Version) - 3,500,000

2. THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT - 2,610,000

:clack:

Jesus :dies:

1989 TV 3.5 million. Is that it's total sales? I noticed the 28 weeks into the YE chart so I'm assuming yes? Or was there any in 2023 chart

Streams are not divided by half. 75% of streams come from the side A.

Most people don't buy 4 versions either.
