Vespertine Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I believe it. I also believe many people in the 1-8 drinks per range week are lying or underestimating. I'm not sober, but I sometimes go many weeks without drinking now, and only really do it if I've planned a fun night out with friends. The older I've gotten, the more it shocks me how many people cannot function in social settings or even just at home without alcohol alongside dinner. Tbh I'm sick of going to events on a weeknight and having someone inevitably imply or ask if I'm "sober" like I'm an ex-alcoholic when I only ask for water. Sorry I prioritize my health and my body, making it to the gym later etc. 7 1

Sorry I prioritize my health and my body, making it to the gym later etc. This. It's shocking just how embedded alcohol is in adult social functions. I realized this once I went sober a few years ago. Almost EVERYTHING social revolves around alcohol in some way, at least living in a major city. And it's crazy how many people come right out and ask insensitive questions about it I truly believe we're at a cultural turning point with alcohol and in 10-20 years it'll be viewed through the lens that cigarettes are. 9 1
DeadInside Posted April 27 Posted April 27 Disgusting. They should listen to Sober by Demi Lovato. 5 1
glitch Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I think this is something that's getting better with younger people (partially due to how expensive it's become to buy a drink in a pub), but there's a portion of people who normalise drinking so much. 14 units a week is classified as binge drinking and for a lot of people they think nothing of that amount of alcohol. 2 1
EnigmaticAndroid Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I'll be dead honest and say that was me a couple months ago before I got into treatment. Sobriety is truly great tho! 7 7

People would always assume I was upset about something or unwell 2

Raver Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I try not to drink alcohol. The last time I had alcohol was at WrestleMania last year. I prefer to smoke weed 1
Trent W Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I think I used to be in that group pre covid Right now I have 1-2 drinks a month, alcohol is pure poison so even when I have those very few drinks I feel guilty 2
Cesar Posted April 27 Posted April 27 i'm sure the drinking consumption is higher in europe, no shade

Gorjesspazze9 Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I drink like once a month nowadays. It's way too expensive. Most of my friends that go out drink less too. 1
mercurialworld Posted April 27 Posted April 27 I feel bad for having 7 drinks a week, that's why I'm trying to smoke more weed 1

popmusicisdead Posted April 27 Posted April 27 i'm not sober or anything but i haven't had a drink in 5 years and i honestly don't miss it. idk why some people have the need to drink THAT much
