they are 100% right. This is not Dua Lipa, you actually need time to let the music grow on you

Yep. It really took me a few listens to really understand and get into the bulk of it, now I can't stop listening

Definitely.

I also think the album being perceived as boring could also because the album cover is in black and white

I think the album would be perceived as less drab and more fun if it had an album cover in color

Almost every song on this album could be on 1989, but because the cover is in B&W it would be seen as more boring. I imagine if it had 1989's original album cover, it would be received differently.

Nobody who isn't a swiftie is gonna listen to a 2h album several times to try to find it not boring and profound beyond the cringe.

Some of the best movies are ones that get better and you notice different things with each watch, it's kind of like that

And if not everyone is willing to rewatch a movie or re-listen to an album, that's okay. There will always be others who will.

Or maybe it's a lackluster album and she should do what every artist does and take the criticism, and use that as advantage to make an even BETTER piece of art the next time? Possibly maybe even her best ever.

Some Swifties and pieces of media don't realize this rhetoric is what's holding Taylor BACK. It's not helping her in any sort of way.

Like what's wrong with constructive criticism??? She's an artist, it's her literal job lmaooo! :deadbanana2:

It's a grower and not a shower! It took me like a week till it finally completely clicked for me. That and a few stimulating brownies.

if you need time to convince yourself you like a piece of media, can it really be great?

while I don't think consuming art should be a one-and-done thing, I saved none of the songs on my first run through. I don't think that means it demands time -- it's just plain ole mediocre.

to me (and the albums harshest critics) anyway. for the fans that enjoy (which there are many), my opinion or what Metacritic says shouldn't matter... unless it's a factor in why you like this woman's work.

I LOVED ttpd on first listen

Must be proof of its greatness then:WAP:

How much time does it demand to be fully appreciated?

Swift's new work demands more time to fully absorb. It cannot be assessed in an instant. It's not fast-food. It's a multi-course meal that stipulates the person sit, with undivided attention, and focus on what is before them. Absorb the smells and the different ingredients designed to stimulate the palate. And then, take time to digest and really ruminate on the experience.

there's a reason why some albums with low scores have high positions on year end lists. see: Anti.

ttpd is not dance music or whatever dua lipa is doing so naturally, it'll take some times.
