Shakespeare lived with racists though and didn't own a tattooed Golden Retriever so I don't think so.

So much of Shakespeare was dick puns. I feel like the only people who regard him as an untouchable genius aren't actually familiar with his work? Like if you think Taylor's work is dumb, if you were alive in his time, you'd probably say the same about him?

Even the National theater made a video about it.

There are actually a whole thread of videos on YouTube

It's a joke space cowboy. People can not take stupid things too seriously sometimes.

Which proves that success and passing the test of time =/= quality.

Something the swifties on streaming numbers thread don't understand

This is why non-fans exist. Things like this.

Isn't the theory that Shakespeare was a pseudonym for a group of authors still going strong? People should be careful with those comparisons.

Actually, the vast majority of Shakespeare's work was extremely divisive upon release and far from universally acclaimed. He was criticised, inter alia, for a lack of adherence to traditional conventions in drama.

Spoiler

Much like a certain album has been criticized for a lack of adherence to traditional norms regarding pop melodies and catchy hooks:alexz2:

"Troilus and Cressida", for one, was particularly panned at the time for combining elements tragedy, comedy and history into a single play, which was pretty unheard of at the time. It wasn't until like the 1800s when Shakespeare received his flowers. They really should've taught this in high school:celestial5:
