I don't what you mean. Rihanna umberella has sold 20 m  pure copies. These copies don't disappear cause riaa (only in the US btw) converts this also in 150k copies to add to an album.

In every book of Sales Rihanna has sold near to 300m pure record, exactly like madonna. You like It or not, you laugh at It or not.

Adele managed to surpass sales from the 80s and 90s though. Back-to-back. So it isn't impossible. The thing is the streaming era has the options of buying an album or song physically or digitally and then getting units from streaming it as well and a large devoted fanbase will be doing all those things. Madonna lived at a time when people bought physical copies of albums and songs but that devotion continues to this day. Of course, less people will buy an album or single nowadays so they will instead opt to stream it but that also includes curiosity listens and those would NOT have paid for an album or single in the 80s or 90s.

No, Adele, with the biggest album of all time according to billboard points was only able to match some of the records in the 80s and 90s.  It's a little obtuse to argue that the industry has not changed.  Only one artist from the 21st century has sold over 200m records.  How many did it in the 80s and 90s.

No. Eminem also sold over 200 million and he's from the 21st Century.

Michael Jackson and Madonna sold 200m from the 80s and Mariah and Celine from the 90s. It hasn't changed as only 1-2 artists from each decade reach that sales threshold. There are many many acts from the 21st century that reached 100 million in sales just like from the 80s and 90s.

Like that other user said, the CPSC (or whatever it's called) method already includes individual songs sales. So you adding 200m singles by Taylor is just double counting.

Yeah but this is not really fair as it's hiding the fact TD, while having good sales, was heavily focused on single sales.

1989 was really really really huge. Why do you think she had half the entertainment industry eager to be a special guest on her tour?
