First off, our weary abacus tells us that Tay's releases—including all "Taylor's Version" re-recordings—are collectively north of 200m in global activity RTD.

The original 1989—her 2014 pop breakthrough—leads the pack with just under 40m (while 2023's Taylor's Version has amassed about 9m), while Lover, Fearless, Red and Reputation have all done around 20m, and the TV reissues of Redand Fearless have racked up just south of 9m and north of 7m, respectively.

2022's Midnights, which has done 17m+ worldwide, is probably the most relevant release for comparison as we await the bow of TORTURED POETS, seeing as it's Tay's most recent album of entirely new material.

Fascinatingly, this aligns very well with ChartMasters. Seems like she's on her way to that #1 spot after all

:ryan3:

Yeah, if anything this proves that ChartMasters is actually underestimating a lot of her recent output, as this has Rep, Lover, and Midnights all 2M over where CM has them

1989 :clap3:

Not everyone has a 90 metacritic album people actually listen to for a decade, and not with critics giving a vote at the "concept" and then don't listen to It anymore from day 2

But they kept Red and Fearless separate, which is weird :ducky:

Filling in the gaps for albums they didn't report on here with ChartMasters as a passable substitute puts her around 219m units before TTPD. :fan:

@Squallanyways you should clarify the thread Is about album Sales.

Cause some fanbases have titles about 250m Total Sales for example but of course that includes 80% of singles Sales

:ryan3:

Yeah, Chartmasters also has her at 202M album units.

As for the discrepancy in some of these specific album units, my guess would be that it comes down to 1. Chartmasters weighing-down Chinese sales and 2. giving views from YouTube also a lower weight than audio streams. The biggest discrepancies are with '1989', 'RED' and 'reputation' and all three eras were massive on YT, so this is probably why their units are higher than on Chartmasters.

But bottom line is, it's nice to see another legitimate industry source use album units to measure artist-based success, just like Billboard/Luminate and the IFPI have also switched to using career album units, but watch some stans still try it with "record sales!!!".
