She will still sell very well for the rest of the week, but not enough to close the gap or come anywhere close to that number it IS RSD today so maybe she will move more vinyls on the second day compared to 1989 tv and midnights, but you are right. There is no way of closing the 1.5m gap to 25
cat1867 Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Just now, RobynYoBank said: It really depends how many preorders are left to be shipped. Recall that 1989 TV only logged 250,000 copies by Luminate on the first day of release even though we now know preorders were approximately 850,000. I think mailing has improved so there won't be as many delayed as during 1989 tv where the USA was still in the mailing crisis.
Cruel Summer Posted April 21 Posted April 21 I would cautiously, tentatively estimate that she's pretty much set for 2.5m+ units if the shipment and consumption pattern for this week is relatively similar to Midnights, based on the fact that Billboard reported 800k pure sales in the US on day one for Midnights and I'd guess it had a little bit less SEA. Just completely insane.

I suspect her team is doing it on purpose to obscure sales since almost all go through her website now, to be honest. But I guess we'll see.
Saintlor Posted April 21 Posted April 21 7 minutes ago, Ms. Togekiss said: Absolutely. If anything, the goal should now be to cross 2M total units. We knew 30 was unreachable anyway due to the state of the market I was always hoping in the back of my mind that she'd do it
Carry My Heart Posted April 21 Posted April 21 @Trainwreck might be a good idea to add "pure" to the title so there's no confusion with SPS figures
family.guy123 Posted April 21 Posted April 21 First day or first 2.5 months? If first day, I don't see how the ADELE record is even in question. She's guaranteed to beat it.

Cruel Summer Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Just now, Trainwreck said: corrected, it was 1.4m pure sales Her biggest week ever… after one day
Ms. Togekiss Posted April 21 Posted April 21 2 minutes ago, Carry My Heart said: Yeah, it'll grow rapidly during the week. They reported 250K pure sold for 1989 TV's first day back in October and that ended up with 1.3M pure by the end of the week, so... i dont think so, keep mind that the 1989 tv roll out in terms of shipping copies was a whole mess, and it looks like they got it under control now like @cat1867said 4 minutes ago, cat1867 said: I think mailing has improved so there won't be as many delayed as during 1989 tv where the USA was still in the mailing crisis. 2 minutes ago, Cruel Summer said: I would cautiously, tentatively estimate that she's pretty much set for 2.5m+ units if the shipment and consumption pattern for this week is relatively similar to Midnights, based on the fact that Billboard reported 800k pure sales in the US on day one for Midnights and I'd guess it had a little bit less SEA. Just completely insane. i think she can sell another 400k pure copies at most, with 450k units in SEA so im predicting a 1.8-2.3M SPS debut

It could certainly be that the vast majority of sales are already counted, but unless there's a serious streaming collapse, I would say the 2m mark is locked.
Swirl900 Posted April 21 Posted April 21 This is INCREDIBLE Us from 2019 would have never believed 2 minutes ago, Ms. Togekiss said: i dont think so, keep mind that the 1989 tv roll out in terms of shipping copies was a whole mess, and it looks like they got it under control now like @cat1867said i think she can sell another 400k pure copies at most, with 450k units in SEA so im predicting a 1.8-2.3M SPS debut I'm going to predict 2m pure, 2.5m SPS 1
wastedpotential Posted April 21 Posted April 21 (edited) The article is very very specific in that this figure only includes pre-ordered copies that have been shipped and delivered. Taylor's team can work herculean feats, and there are probably hundreds of people working on this, but this number is probably the max they could feasibly get shipped and delivered for the first day (there are literally more copies here than there are mail carriers in the US...), and is not the total number of pre-sales Edited April 21 by wastedpotential 5

Cruel Summer Posted April 21 Posted April 21 The fact that we're basically splitting hairs now about how much bigger this will be than her previous biggest weeks, "her" already being the only person to ever have 4, 5, and 6 weeks over a million units in the US 4 3
family.guy123 Posted April 21 Posted April 21 All these people. Listening to the same 31 songs at the same time. I'm flabbergasted 2

Taylor's team can work herculean feats, and there are probably hundreds of people working on this, but this number is probably the max they could feasibly get shipped in one day, and is not the total number of pre-sales to be fair, i think it's rather rare for albums to be delivered right ON release day. I have ordered vinyls from her store before and they took a week or so to get to me and im in a major city. However, maybe her team anticipated the big increase in demand and prepared so that most of her pre orders were shipped and delivered on release day. Her final numbers will be very dependent on her team but also 1. did her team deliver a majority of the pre orders on Friday? 2. is her team deliberately withholding reporting some data so that her sales dont look as frontloaded (like what I think happened with 1989tv). 3. the rate at which luminate/billboard are filtering/registering sales (again, like with 1989 tv)
