Agreed. The safest approach of the two would be for her to work with new producers for TS12 as a response to the criticism but I actually would love for her and Jack to challenge themselves and REALLY do something completly different just to prove the critics wrong BUT that would be a huge risk. If it truly isn't new and good then they will be racked across the rocks by the critics for failing to prove ppl wrong or something. But I like risk tbh...I hope she does the first option and works with him again and creates osmething so fresh and new for the two of them. Something more experimental but not in the 80s pastiche that Jack is known for...like maybe something more ambient and akin to Ray of Light by Madge. That would be A GAG.

i have the feeling this album is truly where she would've landed musically had the pandemic never happened, TS8 in 2021 with this sound. she wouldn't have gotten fully enveloped in the character writing and cottagecore vibes leading to the indieness of folkmore, and she wouldn't have been trying for hits, so we wouldn't have gotten something like midnights. still collaborating with jack, making something decidedly less hit-chasing and more mature than the prev 3 pop eras.

IDK about that. I don't really see how she'd end up here without folkmore and Midnights first, especially given that Aaron Dessner is all over it. 
 

Without the pandemic, she would've done LoserFest and then probably tried to serve an album that served quality songwriting (ie: my tears ricochet) alongside an effort to score quality hits to wash out the aftertaste of the panned Loser hits. No way in hell she would have been content to let ME! and YNTCD be her last hits.  
 

And I think some sort of retrospective album like Midnights was pretty inevitable given the rerecording process.

ooh well maybe not exactly like this album ...she probs would've tried (but not AS hard) for hits considering how resigned she was to fading out in miss americana, so the album would've been more uptempo than TTPD, but i still see her lounging into this midtempo synthpop genre in that timeline.

 

i also agree on a retrospective album idea being likely too, but who knows how the whole TV project would've played out had the pandemic not happened. she said she was emboldened to make the TVs these big events due to the fanfare around fearless TV, but it's possible that doesn't happen in the TL where she doesn't have renewed interest in her career bc of folkmore. i really wish it was possible to peer into other TLs omgggg
