The thing is Joe is actually intertwined in the story as well, but like a very small part. Just like how he plays a small role in the whole record as well. This is the best way she could've dragged him and she just went for it.

My Boy is probably about Joe. So is Florida!!! and probably Down Bad and The Black Dog.
