I adore synthpop and I think the closest she got to my vision of it for her were the 1989 vault tracks — and apparently this is more of that (but better?!) so I'm PERCHED.

And i'm siding towards Rat unfortunately Joe doesn't use social media, why would she be able to snapchat location stalk him. The Black Dog Reveal hidden contents I am someone who until recent events you shared your secrets with and your location you forgot to turn it off And so I watch as you walk into some bar called The Black Dog and pierce new holes in my heart you forgot to turn it off And it hits me, I just don't understand How you don't miss me in The Black Dog when someone plays the starting line And you jump up but she's too young to know this song that was intertwined in the magic fabric of our dreaming Old habits die screaming I move through the world with a heart broken My longings stay unspoken and I may never open up the way I did for you And all of those best laid plans, you said I needed a brave man Then proceeded to play him until I believed it too And it kills me, I just don't understand How you don't miss me in the shower And remember how my rain soaked body was shaking, do you hate me? Was it hazing for a cruel fraternity I pledged And I still mean it, old habits die screaming Six weeks of breathing clean air, I still miss the smoke Were you making fun of me with some esoteric joke Now I wanna sell my house and set fire to all my clothes And hire a priest to come and exorcise my demons Even if I die screaming And I hope you hear it And I hope it's shitty in The Black Dog when someone plays the starting line And you jump up but she's too young to know this song That was intertwined in the tragic fabric of our dreaming Cause tail between your legs you're leaving I still can't believe it Cause old habits die screaming Doesn't "Old habits die screaming" also serve the old fling they had? And Joe doesn't seem like the type to go for young girls at a bar.

georgechxng Posted April 18 Posted April 18 (edited) okay this is my ranking as of right now after listening to the album a couple times. 1. guilty as sin who's afraid of little old me? florida the alchemy but daddy, i love him the smallest man who ever lived my boy only breaks his favorite toys fresh out of the slammer loml the tortured poets departament clara bow i can do it with a broken heart so long, london down bad i can fix him (really, i can) 16. fortnight there's def space for things to move but i don't see my top 2 changing overall, i'm satisfied with the album. it isn't her best but it's far from being her worst. the production on some of the jack's tracks are a bit of a letddown and some melodies are lacking (she needs to drop him ASAP) but overall this is a step up from midnights, especially lyrically and thematically. Did that with Puta and it worked (until it started descending on charts).

Cruel Summer Posted April 18 Posted April 18 5 minutes ago, 19SLAYty9 said: What songs do you think sound like them? What songs do they sound similar to? Basically, I think this album's overarching sonic texture is similar to some particular tracks by The 1975 and their general vibe. Some of the songs aren't really like that - so, like, Florida!!! and I Can Fix Him, for example, don't fit that vibe. But a lot of the of the melodies and instrumentation on tracks like Fortnight could fit on any The 1975 album. In particular I'm getting bits and pieces of the energy of the album I mentioned in that post, their 2016 album I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it. Some of the parallels that I'd draw aren't exactly ironclad, like how I think I Can Do It With A Broken Heart is sort of this album's answer to that albums track The Sound - not in narrative but in sound. Their whole thing, really, is the kind of midtempo synth pop that drives this entire album - though usually they have some rock elements as well, so this album reads like an intentionally more subdued take on the sound. I could probably articulate more specific, better examples with more time, but I very strongly believe that the sound of this album is an intentional parallel to their music because it's apparently largely about Matty. It's tough because I did sort of put the band on ice for a long time after the situation last year, since listening to them became uncomfortable. 3
