Also, justice for Alleluia and Holy Island because their names are always desecrated. I would collapse over a full album like the former, and the latter has some of her most intricate lyricism. :WAP:

Yes to both :jonny: Coney Island just might be the best written song of Her career if we are being honest.

As for Dorothea… never deserved an ounce of the hate it's gotten. They can NEVER make me hate this queen. Also, it's always given me Here You Come Again by Dolly Parton vibes. It sounds very classic.

Oh… okay… So anyway, Evermore - album for people to say that they prefer it over Folklore so they feel more special than the others!

I'm afraid nothing will ever top evermore for me :bird: And I've been feeling that way since December 2020. Each and every song is so close to my heart and at some point helped me deal with my emotions whether they were positive or negative. The storytelling is selling it for me, and despite also getting that in Folklore, this feels like finally letting go of any limitations she might have felt she had at the beginning. Evermore is extraordinary and I simply cannot say which songs are my favourite cause to this day it quickly changes. I've loved Dorothea and Tis The Damn Season for a while now.

To me it's her most mature, nuanced songwriting. It's nearly immaculate.

If she achieves or exceeds this level of songwriting on TTPD :jonny2:

the first 2:30 of "evermore" is some of the most flawless work of her career but the second half of the song isn't on the level I fear. :chick3:

ALSO been a Right Where You Left Me truther since the day I first listened to it, how turns have tabled cause back then there was an online discourse full of hate for this one and now it's generally considered a highlight in her discography when it comes to her art of writing  sooo happy because of that change I'm glad the swiffers saw the light

While you were out building other worlds, where was I?
Where's that man who'd throw blankets over my barbed wire?
I made you my temple, my mural, my sky
Now I'm begging for footnotes in the story of your life
Drawing hearts in the byline
Always taking up too much space or time
You assume I'm fine
But what would you do if I, I

Break free and leave us in ruins
Took this dagger in me and removed it
Gain the weight of you then lose it
Believe me, I could do it

Her best song ever. This is the best part!!!!

evermore is one of my favorite albums of all time. I cannot rate. Each track is a 10/10 with "No Body, No Crime" being the only 8/10.

from release day:

the way i spent half of my first listen of evermore craving a simple bubblegum pop song so badly that i seriously thought about playing ME! afterwards. she's depriving us of pure pop songs on purpose to make us more desperate for one. another 1989 era is coming, i fear.

Spoiler

Once upon a time I believed breaking a heart was a crime

Until the punishment was exchanged and it was mine

You might as well turn in the keys, you're heading off a cliff

I'm surprised it didn't happen sooner, if you catch my drift

There's no makin' amends

(Woah-oh) You're gonna be apprehended

Don't you dare play pretend

(Woah-oh) I've caught you red-handed

Don't you ask me what I mean

'Cause I will begin…

Counting those times when I've already seen you

Don't you ask me what I mean

'Cause I will begin…

Sentencing this torturous love to death

'Cause you're guilty as sin, guilty as sin

(Guilty as sin)

Once upon a time I believed love made us all a little blind

So I thought it would be an advantage to be clever and kind

I can see now that it just stabbed me right back

'Cause those forks in the road almost gave me a heart attack

There's no makin' amends

(Woah-oh) You're gonna be apprehended

Don't you dare play pretend

(Woah-oh) I've caught you red-handed

Don't you ask me what I mean

'Cause I will begin…

Counting those times when I've already seen you

Don't you ask me what I mean (Nuh-uh)

'Cause I will begin…

Sentencing this torturous love to death

'Cause you're guilty as sin, guilty as sin

Red and blue hits you flush on your body

It's moments like these you were anybody

Else, but you can't change who you are!

Baby, what goes around comes around

You're ego's so super that it should be a star

Baby, what goes up must come down

Don't you ask me what I mean

'Cause I will begin (I will, honey)

Counting those times when I've already seen you

Don't you ask me what I mean (Don't you now)

'Cause I will begin…

Sentencing this torturous love to death

'Cause you're guilty as sin, guilty as sin

Said, you're guilty as sin, guilty as sin

And you'll never get the chance to win

'Cause you're guilty as sin, guilty as sin

Red and blue hits you flush on your body

(Don't you ask me what I mean)

It's moments like these you were anybody

Else, but you can't change who you are!

(Counting those times when I've already seen you)

Baby, what goes around comes around

You're ego's so super that it should be a star

Baby, what goes up must come down

'Cause you're guilty as sin, guilty as sin

evermore has no skips. it's all 10s across the board, with maybe the bottom 3 docked a point or two in comparison to the rest. it's also my only taylor album where every song has more than 200 plays (formerly applied to speak now and 1989 until vault songs ruined it).

Spoiler

cowboy like me

tis the damn season

marjorie

happiness

coney island

tolerate it

gold rush

willow

champagne problems

right where you left me

it's time to go

long story short

ivy

evermore

no body no crime

dorothea

closure

marjorie and happiness are the only two songs that were in my initial top 5 on release day that are still there now.

I predicted this thread would be at 1000 pages by midnight tonight which is still 2 hours away where I live :dies:

This will hit 1500 before album is released for sure

We are so close you guys

Im proud to say this is my first Taylor release that I actually followed. I've been around for nearly all her eras and always say how big her numbers were but really only started following her in the last 12 months :duca:

I would actually need to be committed to a mental hospital for real if she serves lyrics like this.
