naval23 Posted April 17 Posted April 17 I miss fun pop. Songs that aren't meant to be lyrically deep and just fun bops. Teenage Dream was a huge blueprint for that and it feels like it's a void that hasn't really been filled
Aurora Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Just a handful of (mostly) mindless pop records released last year. Just because they're not igniting the charts anymore doesn't mean they don't exist. Bops on bops. 4 1
Sun Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Ava Max and Kim Petras are sampling popular songs for every release, Dua Lipa is making the same Future Nostalgia song over and over again hoping it'll stick one more time, so no, no one can do it quite like Ms. Perry 6 2 1 6
Lachlan Posted April 17 Posted April 17 (edited) Charli Kylie Dua Slayyyter Carly Kim Petras (if you like her...) There is certainly not a void left. Edited April 17 by Lachlan 1

I feel like those are more dark fun songs tho? It's not the same bright sunshine fun pop bops as in Katy, except maybe slightly Carly.

I can see Kylie and Carly as the "closest" however there's this certain commercial sound Katy gives that they don't, which I'm assuming is what OP wonders about.
Facelessboy Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Meghan trainer last album was a masterpiece and very Teenage Dream coded. She referenced her for inspiration for the record makes sense.
Bubble Tea Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Dua Lipa is mostly filling the Katy Perry void. Interesting you think "Teenage Dream" isn't lyrically deep, I kind of think it's quite a dark and introspective song. The acknowledgment that your youth is behind you, that you didn't get to experience the perfect teenagehood, the fact that the love being sung about is probably fast and furious like a teenage romance and likely to promptly burn out. 4
Cheers Posted April 17 Posted April 17 A lot of people are making "fun" pop If you mean terrible childish songs, there's Jojo Siwa
Illuminati Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Unironically Charli, Carly etc anyone doing escapism pop is not only filling in the spot for the gays but also doing it better 1
rihannasbe$tfrnd Posted April 17 Posted April 17 Taylor snatched her 4-preteen demographic who else would willingly listen to lyrics like "karma is a cat sitting on my lap" 4

modeblock Posted April 17 Posted April 17 no, I don't have anyone that fills that exact void, tbh. I can't wait for #KPSEX lead
