Is this really 5+ pages when the video clip looked like she herself was just acknowledging that some people don't want to center straight people in the topic of queer icons (since she explicitly mentioned Live to Tell and Madonna's work normalizing those with AIDs) *BUT* that end of the day Madonna's influence is in every fiber of female artists by revolutionizing sexuality and praising her for her impact and legendary influence?

Madonna backed up the gays when it was career-ending. Now, Madonna shouldn't get all the credit, but her contribution to the gay community should not be written off as well

Well it's true. Doesn't make Madonna's solidarity any less meaningful, but most people have the self-preservation to survive/resist threats to their lives and that experience resonates more than acts of kindness from a celebrity.

Disagree with this. We need allies with a massive appeal as well to support our community, especially when the gays have clearly approved Madonna to do that. 

 

She should disapprove Madonna's Israel support instead though.

Hearing the full clip in context, she's basically saying we no longer need allies to be the face our community. That time has passed, partly due to figures like Madonna leading the way in the 80s. She spoke of Madonna with respect, what's the issue?

... the thread is in regards to Madonna, who did in fact help tremendously and did did everyting in her might to do so lol. I don't know if you walked the marches and protests back in the day but considering your attitude I'm gonna assume you did. Your work is greatly appreciated. If you actually watch the entire video, she is not dragging Madonna in any way whatsoever, she only has praise for her.  She was saying that in 2024, we don't need straight people to be the spokespeople for the community, we have our own people who can represent and should be given the platform to do so.  It's not that we didn't need Madonna and her many decades of activism, it's that instead of putting one of our faves on a podium to discuss our rights, it should be one of us on that very same podium.  No one is to blame.
