Oprah is very local. If you ask here in italy who she is on the street probably 9 person of 10 wouldn't recognize her (imagine in Asia). She's famous especially for television and television is always a local phenomenon, not like cinema or music.

 

8 of 10 would recognize Michelle Obama or Beyoncè, or at least they would tell you they heard their name.

Instead of Oprah Whoopi Goldberg was more deserving. Everyone over 30 knows her. Sister Act and ghost 2 huge global classics everyone has seen. 

 

And from the movie world Viola Davis too even if not like Whoopi at the moment.

Michelle's memoir, "Becoming", sold 17M+ copies worldwide. It is one of the best selling books of all time and if I am not mistaken, the highest selling memoir of all time.
