SpaceOddity Posted July 4 Posted July 4 4 hours ago, tbhmatt said: From Felp on popjustice Makes sense, Jade stans Girls Aloud. Girls Aloud worked with Xenomania, a British production team responsible for their entire discography. Xenomania's thing is chaotic pop songs with unconventional structures, jumbled verses and choruses and multiple hooks. Basically, their motto is that every part of a song has to be a different hook. So I'm expecting the same for Angel. 2
goldenrainbow222 Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I'm so ready for this. The first part is giving pure bubblegum S club 7 pop with the angelic vocals and then the chords shift chaotically and we get that glorious descent to hell with the bass drop?! Jade the icon you are!
bwhansen Posted July 4 Posted July 4 She wrote a song about anal sex with Tove Lo! If her target audience wasn't clear enough 1
The Slayer Posted July 4 Posted July 4 She is getting me so excited, I haven't been this excited since Jesy! 1 1 1

Private Show Posted July 4 Posted July 4 let me just say this is one of the most promising debut singles i've heard in a while! do not go into it expecting something like a candy chorus but a kinda left field banger. jade's career looking really promising to me (the other songs she have are also really really good) (single 2 is also huuuge) 8

tbhmatt Posted July 4 Posted July 4 I love that she's seemingly taking some creative risks and releasing something a little bit left-field. We've all said from day one that Jade was the most likely to build a cult following and releasing interesting, potentially polarising music is the best way to do it. She knows how to get people talking, and word of mouth can carry you a long way in the pop world. I'm so excited.

I do get why she wants to go with a big statement song for her debut. What's clear to me (especially reading the recent interview) is that she knows exactly what she wants! Sound wise, look wise, audience wise… she's a student of pop music and knows her target and place within that landscape better than any label or management! That's going to play hugely into her cards.

I hope I am wrong but this is the wrong way to go.

That's how people describe it because of it's unusual structure and pace. That's not a bad thing though! It has huge amount of replay value, especially because there is so much to dissect. Also look at Charli, she's in her most successful era right now and her album is anything but commercial pop! In regards to her label not backing her for a second single, that's a big no. They're not expecting this to hit #1 and the plan for the next few months is set… also, I do expect the streaming numbers for this to be very decent at least! Edited July 6 by timothy_b 1
Mark Rih Posted July 6 Posted July 6 We had to wait for the fourth of them to have a proper bop with some personality but we finally made it!

I am just afraid she will try to pull a Raye "Genesis". If that is the case it will not make much noise. I really hope she does find some sucess but I am afraid she might blow her shot with this.

I LOVED her interview and love how much she gets "it" all. I just know how labels can be. There's so much excitement and preamble, but should Angel not do well, it factually does impact the push for the follow-up. It happens every time. That is unless they all from the get-go know that they are hitching everything on single #2 and are, as others have said, using Angel Of My Dreams as a statement track. (If so, I just wish artists got more intentional about how they create that demarkation), aka making it an instant grat track for pre-ordering the album). I also hope/imagine she has some heightened good grace with RCA being the sole member who stayed with the label after the group split. Surely/hopefully that counts for something.
