Ecuador invades Mexican embassy

Developing story:

This is rich coming from Ecuador considering how in 2012 it granted political asylum to Julian Assange in their London embassy… and neither the US or the UK invaded their embassy. :rip:

An embassy is technically not a countries territory outside of that country. So Ecuador didn't really invade Mexico but an embassy should be inviolable by the host country. This is a big diplomatic issue and could be considered an act of war.

This is developing story. Mexico has broken diplomatic relations with Ecuador and we don't know if Mexico will also retaliate.

ok so from what i could gather from snooping a bit around articles:

- mexico gave asylum to ecuador's ex-vicepresident after he was given an arrest order by ecuador's newly elected president

- they 'invaded' mexico's embassy to get him

- mexico broke relations w ecuador, which is kinda extreme not every country has that to their name

- mexico will put an official complaint with the international court against ecuador and sanctions will most likely follow

- mexico has ordered all their diplomats and citizens in ecuador to return urgently, less than 24 hours

this stuff is mostly to-be-seen what happens next but also kinda the messiest (or probable cause for war):

- several mexican diplomats who were residing in mexico's embassy were injured by ecuador's police force (:biblio::biblio::biblio:)

- ecuador's president statement after the invasion was a mess, tl;dr: he was "proud of upholding ecuador's sovereignty, we had to get him, mexico's president tanked, we love mexican citizens tho xoxo"

- mexico's president should give a conference in a few hours and they expect for him to explain his next course of action (aka retaliation (war) or something else)

a mess

An attack on an embassy is an attack on the country. This is a huge disrespect towards Mexico and its sovereignty. I hope AMLO takes the proper actions against Ecuador

But I have a feeling the US 🇺🇸 & the Vatican 🇻🇦 will intervene s:wan:

What in the :suburban:

That's such an extreme reaction, Ecuador's President should've just cut off diplomatic ties if the political asylum given to its former president was an issue in the context of his charges and give a time lapse for Mexico's diplomats to leave the country. Extreme violation of international diplomatic law seen here, but I highly doubt AMLO would declare war over this, Mexico's foreign policy is strongly rooted in non-intervention and international peace so it would be out of left field to declare war (never mind that we are not really equipped for one right now). I hope the situation eventually cools down and no more people are injured, the situation with Peru a while back also never really went anywhere thankfully.

AMLO started this, he isn't a victim here at all :rip: he started commenting on Ecuador's business and made some REALLY questionable statements earlier this week.

Also, we have a federal election year, war won't break out or he will tank the hell out of his party, only his stans want something like this and there's no point in invigorating them.
