"Beyoncé's country album drowns out the Black music history it claims to celebrate"

I'm sure this will get plenty of hate, but I would've much rather seen a rising black country music artist have a breakthrough in the industry than for Beyonce to come in and easily break all of these records because of the fanbase she already had and established.

I can completely see why any black country artist would feel some type of way.

Could you even discuss it without being blinded by hate and bias? I think not.

You would be wrong, but that is ok.  I'm used to these types of bad takes from you.

Its always the same cycle: Bey achieves something, first its celebrated, then after a short bit, people try to diminish her impact and success (and its usually black people).

So transparent.

But good news: Bey feeds off that and only comes back more grand every single time.

There's a reason why artists CREATE art while most of us simply CONSUME IT. Because of weird think pieces like this. I truly feel a lot of people only like to have the adverse opinion not because they truly care about the landscape of country music and it's contributors, but because people want to feel as if they're smarter than what they truly are. And the truth is… they're not. :ahh:

You reallyyy think Beyoncé simply did this move for the sake of notoriety? After all the sh*t she's put up with with racism from millionsss of people. At the Super Bowl, at the CMAs, the entirety of her career? If anything that would make someone completely pull away. I think it's a hard pill for some to swallow that Beyonce might actually CARE about black people getting notoriety for a genre THEY basically created. Please save it. It's just cringe now.

I will never understand the argument that she has to work exclusively with black artists only. :rip: It is such a bizarre and crazy expectation that literally no other artist is held to.

Her working with Miley Cyrus does not/has not taken away from the message and importance of the album.

very strange for the author to completely ignore Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Reyna Roberts, Tiera Kennedy, Linda Martell, Willie Jones and Shaboozey????

thats how i know this was not a good faith article. they were being obtuse to make their point only mentioning Post and Miley.

Pretty sure everyone feels the same. Who wouldn't want to see some new Black country artist come out and take the whole industry by storm?

It's not Beyoncé's fault she is who she is, and has the support she does. She is free to make whatever genre of music she pleases. She surely didn't do it to take control of Country or claim to be a catalyst for any success Black artists have after this album.

People need to accept why it never happened before this, and it's because of racism

Is Beyonce really taking the country industry by storm? Are fans of country music actually buying her album, or just the Hive and casuals?  There's a lot of hype and fanfare around this release, but reviews I've seen from actual country outlets is that the album is barely even country.

Did she ever say she was reclaiming genres though? That narrative was kinda thrust upon her by Internet stans

Internet stans or music critics?

Remember that was itself not simply a clapback but a reminder (to dumbass ignorant white country types who knew nothing about the black roots of the genre, who as soon as they heard Beyoncé making a country album, had a kneejerk "stay in your lane, country is ours" reaction (like banning her stuff on radio station playlists for example).

Only thing i agree on is the miley and post malone features being weird choices. Unfortunately the songs are good.

"Claiming back country music to black people"

When in reality:

- making herself look white with all the blonde hair promo

- collaborating with white artist only

- covering songs from white people

Loooool what a joke.

Blonde aka her signature style since 1999? :deadbanana:

Collaborating with white artists only when there are 7 black artists featured

Covering songs from white people when songs like 16C and YaYa literally carry the torch of Prince and Tina respectively.

Your opinion is such a joke. Just say u dislike Bey to the core and move on, pretending to have knowledge that can be so easily disproven is just laughable

This is actually a really good article that makes interesting points on authenticity and how Bey's position in the industry influences the perception of her art. It doesn't stop me from loving the album, but I see where the author is coming from.

Sadly, ATRL is going to turn this into fuel for stan wars, with OBHs going "See!!! It's a bad album!!" and the Hive dismissing the author's credibility.

This is exactly how I feel about it. I'm still super excited to get my hands on the record, and I can certainly understand the criticisms here.

They were background vocals

That's still a lot more vocals than some artists serve on their own albums. :duck:
