State of Grace. Posted April 12 Posted April 12 The things I'd do to Kevin and Danny with this playing in the background 1 1
WitnessOblivia Posted April 12 Posted April 12 It's such a bop! I love the music video too. 1 minute ago, ONOPKA said: i wasn't digging the snippet but i LOVE the final finished product i wanna lay by a pool with an aperol spritz with this playing in the bg Right? I wasn't quite sure whether it'd be good based on the snippet, but she snapped

All the deep analysis is way too much for me when the music is just fun and carefree. I really don't want the tepid response to this era to make Dua and her team feel like she NEEDS to switch it up. When artists lose sight of what they want to do, it really damages the quality of the music. For better or for worse (and it's better for me), all 3 songs feel very Dua and like she's very much enjoying what she's putting out. I love that. As for the FN comparisons, music wise… I really don't get it. RO's singles just completely blow DSN/FN/Physical out of the water for me, and I love those songs too. FN as an album is also amazing and one of my favorites of all time but there are some very big stinkers on that album for how short it is, despite the incredibly high highs. What I can see as a critique for FN against RO is that FN was giving us a pop star who was hungry to prove herself, and then she did. Now, with RO she's proven herself and now feels more cool, controlled and confident which may read as her being a bit less ambitious, and so the songs sort of lack that hunger. I don't agree personally, beyond the fact that I do think she is having more relaxed fun this era than she was with FN era, but I can still pinpoint that as a reason why people maybe aren't connecting with the music as much overall. All that being said, for people saying that her music is formulaic and lacking identity.. maybe Dua just isn't the artist for you. I don't want her to suddenly start making songs about her depression or other deeper topics if she really doesn't have anything to express with that. What I love about Dua's music, and why she's the first artist since stanning Rih that has made me feel this way, is that she just makes bops and makes me feel good, like a bad b*tch. That's all I really need from my artists. I don't need personal narratives I can't relate to, and I don't need any type of emotional music to make me connect with an artist. I just want something I can enjoy while also believing the artist is enjoying it too. The people in here trying to solve some kind of wicked problem with Dua and her career are kind of tiring because there… really isn't an issue? Like if you're not connecting with the music or Dua, then it's just not for you and that's okay. Maybe you liked FN but that's one part of her discography, so go listen to that. Dua is sticking to her vision, doing what she wants to do, and generally her fans seem to love it— I know I do. Just let people enjoy the music, there's really no need to analyze things like her career is imploding and she's suddenly recording leftover Selena Gomez demos from 2014. Give her songs a listen then keep it moving. Drag those heifers We will be bopping to this SOTY in the clubs all around Europe Edited April 12 by Supervillain

The various influences, the breakdown... REAL music Dua is one of the rare popstars (together with Bey and Jessie) who understands that disco and dance music isn't just about the digital, but also about real instrumentation. See: the bass on FN. Gaga, Kylie (sorry, Mother, but it's true), Ava, etc. all need to take some cues. Edited April 12 by Virgos Groove 2 6

Duallah is an excellent student of Pop/Disco music and that's why its been serve after serve from her. 3 1
Solaria Posted April 12 Posted April 12 56 minutes ago, Relampago. said: Also, it's been said already but Houdini was 1000% the right choice as the lead. Illusion is the most commercial of the 3 songs for sure and I can see how it was supposed to serve as the bridge between FN and RO, but could you imagine the lashings of her releasing this after Dance the Night with the "dance all night, dance all night" part of Illusion too? Like Houdini already got dragged left and right for being too similar to FN (how or why? I have no clue whatsoever) I can only imagine how bad it would have been for us if Illusion came out first King we love you for loving Houdini as much as I do, the people that get it GET it. Ha best song! 1
Mr. Peanutbutter Posted April 12 Posted April 12 This is by far my least favorite song from the era. Still looking forward to the album cause I enjoyed Houdini and Training Season
drip drop Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I enjoyed Hoedini and Training Season but Illusion isn't clicking. Also the MV is not saving the song.
black12345 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I really like it 😎 really catchy. I guess I prefer the extended version
GreatestLoveofAll Posted April 12 Posted April 12 (edited) not as tight and undeniable as the first two singles but after a few listens i already really like it. another win for miss dua! Edited April 12 by GreatestLoveofAll had to add the gif ofc 1
Lovett Posted April 12 Posted April 12 The more I play this, the less I like it. It's definitely my least fave of the singles so far.
paddii_ Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I'm not gonna judge the song now. Both Houdini and TS were both huge growers so I know this is gonna be a slay after a few more days and listens. Also love the lyrical content of this album. Dua said enough of trash men who are emotional unavailable.
goldstargay Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Dua was always good for a bop but idk I am amongst those who are just not connecting with this era... at all.
chaneloberlin Posted April 12 Posted April 12 Dua's music ages better on future listens but this is, after a few listens, is my least favorite single from the RO era. The video is100/100 though HOUDINI you will always be famous and I got that first time. I see why it was the lead
LanaXtinaFan Posted April 12 Posted April 12 The more I play this, the more I like it. The production is INSANE! Discovering new details every time
iiswhoiis_max Posted April 12 Posted April 12 The video! All these bulges flopping around. Thank you miss Peep <3

Cheers Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I'm sorry but this is on CONSTANT REPEAT! Song of the summer. Idrgaf if it flops the quality is excellent. i might have to Stan Dua fr! I stan all 3 songs hard. 3
perfectillusion204 Posted April 12 Posted April 12 I like the song but I don't think it'll be a hit. It's also my least favorite single this era so far, but the best video. The GP will hear this and think it's a FN track tbh. But really… where is this new sound she's been promising for this album?! None of the singles give off anything new from Dua. Not in a bad way as I stan Houdini & TS. Hoping the album tracks will give us something new.

Cloudy Posted April 12 Posted April 12 It has grown on me tremendously. Don't know if it's the 33 degrees outside and the sun but I was having a walk and this transported me to that pool
