MatiRod Posted March 30 Posted March 30 What genre category Cowboy Carter ends up being in will cause a lot of discussion. I could easily see the country branch refusing to vote for it in country and it ending up in pop.
Gov Hooka Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Allie X deserves but I honestly want them to give it to Taylor swift so society can finally collectively throw this sham awards show in the trash where it belongs. (And that's no disrespect to Taylor's great albums and artistry)

Feanor Posted March 30 Posted March 30 17 minutes ago, slw84 said: Kacey and Chris Stapleton are taking votes away from Beyonce in the country field. If a rap album or r&b album gets in the AOTY category that's pulling votes too. A lot of pop potential which could be challenging for vote split but Taylor being included will help out as people will shy away from voting from her since she won last year unless her new album is monumental. So neither and Billie, Vampire weekend or another pop artist will have an edge but as many pointed out Beyonce will get Americana and country wins for at least one category and Taylor will get Pop wins. Chris Stapleton most likely won't even be nominated for AOTY. He swept the country field 2 years ago and still couldn't get a single nomination in the General Field. And while Kacey is an AOTY winner, that nomination came to be when the GF nominees were still decided by a committee. Since they abolished that rule and have the voters all the powers, not a single country album has been nominated for AOTY, and 'Deeper Well' does not have the same reception that 'Golden Hour' so I don't think she'll be making it again. Beyoncé will be the only Country/Americana album nominated.
airplane Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) Beyoncé is absolutely not winning AOTY with this lmfao. She had her chance with Renaissance, but this? Edited March 30 by airplane 2
Cruel Summer Posted March 30 Posted March 30 There is zero chance that TTPD wins just one year after midnights, even if it happens to be the best album ever recorded and spends 20 weeks at #1. It's not even worth considering - it will get a cute nomination like Evermore did and we can all be happy with that. Not just because it's tragically overdue for her but because the album is truly that strong on its own without that additional context, I would like to see Cowboy Carter win AOTY. 1
Gerardo Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I think an alt/rock or rap album will win Kacey will have country support won't get much pop votes Beyonce won't receive much support from country voters, see how the moment Taylor went pop they never voted for her again, they only like people who always make country also, all the pop albums by Billie, Ariana, Taylor, Dua and possibly Gaga/Justin will take votes from each other and cancel out each other this would pave the way for a rap album or an alt/rock album to win 1

After Jay-Z complained about her not being an AOTY winner, the optics will be really bad if she doesn't take it. The Grammys are all about politics at the end of the day. Also they wouldn't give it to Taylor twice in a row, that's a given. Meh. The optics have already been bad. The Grammys just don't care.

Taylor will have to have a monumental year where it is clear as day that she checks all boxes for it to happen so soon. taylor has everything going for her during the mignights eras. We'll see how this new era fares in terms of acclaim and impact. We know success is almost guaranteed.
slw84 Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) If billie is able to go from shoutout/upset during HTE and comes back strong they'll not even need to vote for Taylor as Billie will be right there. Ariana will get the Miley treatment. I do not see Beyonce being the only "country" option but even if so I think it's going to be tougher than some think especially if a rap or r&b album is in the category Edited March 30 by slw84
OrgVisual Posted March 30 Posted March 30 U all know that the Grammy voters do not sit down together and decide who should win right? They all vote INDIVIDUALLY based on their own references, and the racist white boomers will never ever vote for Beyonce no matter what music she makes. The reason why Taylor won so many time because she got support from Country plus swing votes from Pop and indepedent voters 2
WildAmerican Posted March 30 Posted March 30 (edited) 4 hours ago, Don said: Hmmm I doubt Taylor would two in a row.. they should've given it to SOS or Tunnel Blvd this year and Taylor next year for an album that's not even out yet make it make sense Edited March 30 by WildAmerican
YellowRibbon Posted March 30 Posted March 30 Taylor secured the support of hundreds of voters across America when she saved their independent record stores with the folklore signed copies... The only reason why some record stores across the country are still open is because of people buying physical copies of Taylor's albums. The impact of TTPD is yet to be seen, but I'm leaning towards a left field win this year. 2

The lame discourse surrounding whether Texas Hold Em was country even when it obviously was unique to country as the country community has a huge woman/race issue. Rock listeners might be pretentious, but they respect good craft. The rock community at least has some record of embracing people that aren't white men also.
