sillycilla Posted April 1 Posted April 1 CC is better than Renaissance and it's an album that's a much bigger risk. And critics themselves don't really like genre bending albums. 1

CC is actually Bey's 4th best album imo. Great album in its own right but not above its predecessors (Lemonade, Renaissance, and Self-Titled). Edited April 1 by PurpleAfrodyte 1 1 2

Triton Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Renaissance has a tighter grip and audience, CC isn't as concise. More skips. 2 1
Carla Rosón Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Even if not on the pantheon of Bey's trinity (ST, L and R) CC remains heads and shoulders above most pop records released in the last few years. 2
Cloröx Posted April 1 Posted April 1 The Rolling Stone perfect score will offset the P4K score, I think both publications share same weightage. Expect the score to stay at 91 at least but more reviews are coming. 1
Doogle Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Yeah I agree that ultimately Renaissance never loses steam and CC does. It's not to say it's a huge quality diff between the two but Renny doesn't have a single second to breathe. An hour of snatchery 3 2 1
Kern Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Out of all the songs they could diss, they didn't like Bodyguard??
liquiddiamonds Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Called it. They're so predictable with their scores these days…

Riiiiight.... ________ The P4K score is exactly what I was expecting after the way they dragged Texas Hold Em. By their standard it's a great score. Cowboy receiving a lower score than Self Titled is definitely hilarious. Not surprising at all from the same publication who gave her best album Lemonade a 8.5 yet gave Renaissance a 9.0 This score is even more interesting when they recently rated 8.0 a very average album

Shinning Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Yeah it was already expected they'd give it an ok score (ok for Beyoncé, great for everyone else) after they flip flopped on Texas Hold 'Em. p4k is not to be trusted. Though I'm ngl Rennie IS the better album so they spilled on that one.
PurpleAfrodyte Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Renny is much closer to a perfect album as you can get. While I love CC, I don't think it is as consistent and it runs way too long. Shave like 3-4 songs off and have better transitions, and I would see it being rated higher. Also, CC being Bey's 4th best album isn't bad at all because the albums before it are amazing just like it is. An 8.4 is still a win. 1
PurpleAfrodyte Posted April 1 Posted April 1 You can also tell people who know music and aren't biased by hype and excitement from a new and fresh release. 1 4

PurpleAfrodyte Posted April 1 Posted April 1 (edited) CC has a couple of things going against it. Length (it could have benefitted more from being a 2 side album if she wanted that many songs on there.. or taking off songs), transitions, and being marketed as a country album when a lot of it is not. If she had more pure country songs like "Blackbiird", "Protector", "16 Carriages", "II Most Wanted" and even "Daddy Lessons”-esque songs on there, it would have easily been a top 2 Beyoncé album imo. Not to mention that the vinyl pressings have act ii: Beyincé on it, as if Bey changed her mind at the last minute. Great album regardless. Edited April 1 by PurpleAfrodyte 1
justin. Posted April 1 Posted April 1 If I say what I want about Lemonade, I will be banned from this thread. Cowboy Carter is excellence, and I'm glad it's getting acclaim. Renny does remain her best album, but CC is somewhere near the top.
DR0GO Posted April 1 Posted April 1 Is this the LA Times review we're still waiting for? https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/music/story/2024-04-01/beyonce-cowboy-carter-review 1
PurpleAfrodyte Posted April 1 Posted April 1 The downvotes won't change P4K's opinion. We go off of the actual music, not the hype. CC is a good album but we won't treat Renny like it isn't ****. 8

CC is a good album but we won't treat Renny like it isn't ****. Downvotes have nothing to do with P4K's opinion. Because it is just that, an opinion. The issue is with your assertion that if people disagree, they are lying. That's just a wild assumption that prioritizes external validation (in this case, P4K's review) over a listener's individual connection to the work. 8
simon Posted April 1 Posted April 1 I don't care about reviews as much this era. This album is a declaration that is bigger than critics. Like someone said, P4K rated this lower than Invasion of Privacy. Reviews are relative to the expectations of an artist, and not to the music industry as a whole. This will remain above a 90, and the album will go down as a landmark and cultural masterpiece! 8
