TROPICUM Posted March 25 Posted March 25 (edited) in your opinion, what times did a singer got their lead single wrong? what song would you have chosen? (imo): Lana: Chemtrails Over the Country Club Let Me Love You Like A Woman -> Chemtrails OR Tulsa Jesus Freak Blue Banisters Blue Banisters/Text Book/Wildflower Wildfire -> Dealer Mitski: Be the Cowboy Geyser -> Nobody The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We Bug Like an Angel -> My Love Mine All Mine OR Star The Neighborhood: The Neighborhood Scary Love -> You Get Me So High Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones Middle of Somewhere -> Stargazing Edited March 25 by TROPICUM
nono77 Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Kylie Minogue X - 2 Hearts should have been IN MY ARMS Kiss Me Once - Into The Blue should have been Waiting For The Sun or FINE 3 1
SoundsandSongs Posted March 25 Posted March 25 (edited) Run the World Girls tbh. The lead should have been Love on Top which the GP loved. Despite Love On Top being the fourth single, it has more spotify streams than many 2011 smashes like Born This Way and Sexy and I know It etc. Edited March 25 by SoundsandSongs 12
Popular Post Dear Reader Posted March 25 Popular Post Posted March 25 (edited) Bringing in the obvious answer I would have chosen Cruel Smash as the lead! Edited March 25 by Dear Reader 1 18
Illuminati Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Imo for Lana it makes sense to release droplets like Let Me Love You Like A Woman when the album release is far away, cause if she just put out Chemtrails title track right away the hype would have been long gone by the time of album release. 1 1
Sweeftie13 Posted March 25 Posted March 25 (edited) Lady Gaga - Joanne : Perfect illusion (wrong) vs Million Reasons (right) Beyoncé - Renaissance : Break my Soul (wrong) vs Cuff It (right) Taylor Swift - Lover : ME! (wrong) Vs everything from Lover but IFTYE and It's nice to have a friend (maybe Paper Rings or Daylight shorter version ) Katy Perry - Smile : She should have used Never Really Over as real lead single OT: The Edge of Glory should've been the second single from Born This Way and Dark Horse should've been the second single from Prism with unconditionally as third single. Cruel Summer is the perfect lead but it wouldn't have smashed as hard in 2019. Maybe Lover would've been the best lead choice in the long run? (Cruel summer as the eras tour smash fits so well.) 1

But I don't think any other track would serve right as the lead. MAYBE Paper Rings 1
TitanicSurvivor Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Accelerate. The fact that she chose this song to make her comeback from 5 years of absence when she had Fall in Line and Maria 1
DuffStan Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Hilary Duff's Chasing the Sun Loveee the song now but it is not lead COMEBACK material 4
costlyxo Posted March 25 Posted March 25 My conspiracy theory I still hold on to is that Fifth Harmony was forced to release Down as their lead single so the public would care less about their comeback without Cam*la. None of their efforts would have any chance against label politics but He Like That literally has a gorgeously shot video with product placement and the song is so good! Down should have either been an album track or never released, they should have included Better With You on the tracklist. 5H final album should've been He Like That -> Angel with a real budget music video (those 2 are interchangeable tbh) -> Better With You !! -> Don't Say You Love Me . The $5 video for Deliver is a cute promo single, Sauced Up could also have been a buzz single Spoiler 3

Trying to release Church Girl before Cuff It, RTW before Love on Top, Diva and Ego before Sweet Dreams, Ring the Alarm before Irreplaceable and Beautiful Liar..... So many terrible choices. 2

Homebrand Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Lead singles don't always need to be the biggest you guys realise I think Run the World and BMS walked so the latter singles could run tbh. And I think they were both great introductions into their respective eras. 3
Princess Aurora Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Interscope when Carly Rae Jepsen had to release I Really Like You as a lead single 5
MALAMENTE Posted March 25 Posted March 25 Wrong according to what metrics? Cause to me a bad lead is the one that makes you scrap an era/doesn't lead to an album. If the song you released as lead manages to lead, regardless of chart performance, then it wasn't a bad choice. Another thing is the opinion on quality.
