Roberto Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Loved this (it took me a few listenings but now I'm obsessed), but I fear she didn't top Innocence of Smash. 1 2
Uncatena Posted July 11 Posted July 11 Love the single and the video is my favorite of the era so far. That shot of her in the woods with the umbrella was GORGE. 2
VeniceBeach Posted July 11 Posted July 11 All the released tracks so far are good, I'm excited for the album 2 2
Delirious Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Not your cherry is immaculate (one of my favs) Every track so far is immaculate 1
Delirious Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Ya I like this one A LOT. more than la la love and maybe just a bit worse than innocence but maybe it'll grow 1
RideOrDie Posted July 20 Posted July 20 (edited) this is my favourite ionnallah alboom in a long time. although she said it's the sequel to blue, this doesn't necessarily reflect with the production. i'd say the first two singles are the most blue like whereas the rest is more of a culmination of all her previous work, with touches of blue, EATBF, be here soon and remember the future. but moving past that, what i find interesting about this album is the drums usage. instead of opting for 808s/electronic drums on all the songs, there are a lot of live band feeling acoustic drums and drum loops perfectly sprinkled in. on 'forgive her' (5:12) and 'who' there are build ups leading to very pleasing live drum loops that carry the rhythm and the song until the end. the former is an interesting one, there seems to be heavily processed vocals present all over it that sounds like a wailing baby that some might find obnoxious to say the least. but once the drums kick in, the song sounds perfect as the creepy ballad that it is. it is one of my favourites. we return back to some bops after that, 'the end of every song' is a manic, crazy synth-line driven banger. it is tight, fast-paced and the biggest stand-out from the album for me. the catchy hook and the whistling followed by the synth breakdown in the middle of the song is chef's kiss. sing it like you mean it... 'luminary rainbows' and 'run wild' continue the pattern of combining live drums with shimmery synths, they are cute lil pop songs that are more straightforward. i think there's only one snooze on here (darkness is a boring place - with the skip of my dreams), it has a gospely preachy feel to it with grouped/choir vocals, an annoying snare drum and a half-baked production. and it's a lot longer than it should have been (5:30). we finish the album with two excellent songs though, while 'you hold me like water' has a similar feel to 'not your cherry' just a bit more heavier, 'who' is a euphoric, dreamy little closer of a ballad with delicious melodies, vocals and a perfect synth/drum loop breakdown. it is most reminiscent of 'fold' for me and one that i feel like they put in a lot of effort to the production details. i'm sick, i'm sore, i'm tired of running - they'll hunt us they will stop at nothing thank you mother jonna and daddy claes for this lovely alboom. i think this one is their most accessible, most pop work, and better than be here soon and remember the future. there's a more polished folk-pop sensibility and melodic arrangements being carried over from her last album and some might criticize the lack of weird experimental energy, i think it's a return in the right direction. Reveal hidden contents @original_lifeline thank you so much for giving us this review. this will be my go-to everytime I will need to restore my hype for the album til September, the 13th. I've also felt that this album was going to be a proper follow-up to EATBF and RTF. BHS was strangely sprinkled in her discography like a snooze poison, but I've learnt to live with it. Feels good to be on the right track again with mommy Jonna. Little Jonnsters, RISE! 1
