not even the ariana stans believe these numbers are not underwhelming and that’s why they’ve been creating threads about her “smashing” all week long to try to push a narrative :rip:

Her #1 hits:

Thank U, Next

7 Rings

Stuck With U

Rain On Me

Positions

Save Your Tears (Remix)

Die for You (Remix)

Yes, And?

We Can’t Be Friends (Waiting for Love)

It’s crazy she didn’t get any #1s her first 4 albums, and now she is just racking them up left and right since late 2018 :deadbanana:

Her, Drake and Taylor are truly getting the #1s they deserved for her older smash hits that were blocked :deadbanana:

I agree. And this is honestly no shade to Drake, at all, but more so shade towards Billboard.

This is why I hate album bombs, tbh. Drake now has 77 top 10 "hits" but I feel as if (over the last 4-5 years at least) 70%+ of these top tens were just album songs that spent less than 15-20 weeks on the chart and were never played on radio or made any sales. They're just frontloaded streaming "hits" -- which is okay, I guess, but these over-powered streaming bombs literally bury all of the more well-balanced hits off of the chart and it's getting tiresome to look at as a chart freak lol. Like I don't care who the artist is, whole albums shouldn't be debuting in the top 20, its just overkill.

I kinda agree but it's more nuanced.

I'm a very big advocate for the most popular songs in any given week to be the ones at the top of the chart. That's literally their purpose. That's why I hate the recurrent rules for example. But there's a conversation to be had about albums being so popular that every song gets a very high entry on the charts. Taking Midnights example because that's the one I know well, of course the top 10 songs were the most consumed songs of the week, but at the same time, it was more so because the album was extremely popular as a whole. I don't know if it's possible to come up with a rule that seems fair to treat these gigantic album bombs, but that's definitely a conversation to be had.

Maybe we could just subtract the streams from the least streamed song of any given album to all the other songs. The remaining streams would count for the song while the minimal streams each song has would count towards the album? For example

Track 1 - 500k streams

Track 2 - 400k streams

Track 3 - 300k streams

Track 4 - 200k streams

Track 5 - 100k streams

100k streams of each track (so 500k total) would count towards the album's SEA, while 400k streams would count for Track 1 on the H100, 300k for track 2... and 0 streams for track 5?

I don't know if I'm clear, or if it makes sense, or if it's even a good idea. Just something I thought about on the spot. But this would dilute the impact of massively popular albums on the singles chart.

Congratulations, excellent song at #1 :heart2: Perhaps one of Ari's best #1 hits.

Exactly. Drake is still undeniably the biggest male artist of the century. That would still be true if you halved his Top 10's and kept it true to his actual memorable hits.

A UK-like rule must be implemented. Unfortunately it would not be retroactive.

Her flop era outdoing some others peak!

Posted

Ariana becomes the first female artist with multiple albums with multiple #1 debuts:

#1 Daydream - Mariah Carey (One Sweet Day & Fantasy)

#2 thank u, next - Ariana Grande (thank u, next & 7 rings)

#3 SOUR - Olivia Rodrigo (drivers license & good 4 u)

#4 eternal sunshine - Ariana Grande (yes, and? & we can't be friends)

Albums of this decade with multiple number ones:

- After Hours: Heartless/Blinding Lights/Save Your Tears

- SOUR: drivers license/good 4 u

- MONTERO: Call Me by Your Name/Industry Baby

- For All The Dogs: Slime You Out/First Person Shooter

- eternal sunshine: yes, and?/We Can't Be Friends

So much for her Witness era. :gaycat5:

Oh. I forgot that. Too many Albums are coming out right now.

Definitely not too many.  This is what it felt like back in the early 2010s.

So deserving! After people thought Ariana would flop she comes back scoring not one but two #1 singles and a #1 album!

Right!? Problem, Bang Bang, Side to Side, & NTLTC were really robbed.
Plenty of other songs deserved, but these are the HITS that feel snatched away to me.

OT: congrats on #9 queen
