Communion Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) It's clear whatever happened in Ethan's marriage with his ex-wife left her (Lily) upset and seeing him move on led her to take it out on Ariana. The ex-wife has every right to come to terms however she needs with a relationship she had coming to an end, but the strength Ariana has displayed in navigating both being unfairly disparaged publicly over what are clearly lies, let alone graciously understanding the power imbalance at play between her and Ethan's ex-wife and bestowing understanding on Lily Jay that wasn't reciprocal... The way some people took advantage of his ex-wife's emotions because weaponizing the lies spread during those moments of lashing out meant they could hurt Ariana is.. wild, especially when coming out the other side of it just proves Ariana as someone with a unique ability for empathy. She never spoke on Mac's addiction spiraling and becoming worse (which led him to dump her, the person most of his friends credited with supporting his sobreirty) when they broke up, only speaking up later on about him needing to "get his **** together" cause she was 1) actively on social media then and 2) weird straight men were blaming her for why he got arrested for driving while high. Pete incorporated ****-talking her into his routines months after their failed engagement (after doing something as toxic and gaslighting as literally publicly blaming her for his suicidal ideation cause she.. made a joke about Kanye on twitter?) and yet we never got any of the songs dissing him despite us knowing there were several (Still On Ur Mind, No Free Promo). Like.. trust, as a fan, it was torturous and confusing to see her not speak up, but eternal sunshine as a body of work really indeed does all the explaining she needs. A single text screenshot from that time of Lily accusing Ethan of cheating would end all doubt. So why risk the prospects of the film by bringing up a topic that could simply be ignored? ES is already a smash with her not directly addressing it. It's quite literally putting the film in more financial risk to actually speak on the claims and deny them unless he was 100% certain he was right. That risk lending credibility that this saga has been a dishonest smear campaign exploiting someone's grief since the start.

Besides, only one person even slightly involved in the situation has come forward and it wasn’t exactly damning to begin with. The media outlets sensationalize everything anyways so I’d be willing to bet that it was all overblown and looking for a headline.
Rotunda Posted March 15 Posted March 15 (edited) It’s funny how people can practice discernment and critical thinking skills when their fav/least fav isn’t involved, but the second someone yall have strong attachments to is in trouble, you lose the ability to reason. We don’t know the specific contours of their relationship, and I honestly don’t think we should given there’s a young child involved. The mental gymnastics I- im not condoning her behavior if she slept with him behind his wife’s back but he chose to do it. She’s not the one with children in her marriage. and again, if someone leaves/cheats on you, they were never yours and bound to do it eventually with anyone else
