Ck.cR Posted March 14 Posted March 14 That Britney Spears Toxic grammy mostly because it wasn't actually hers. I wonder who will get an actual grammy first... Britney, Katy or Avril? The real singerwongwriting queens Avril and Katy should get it first. But we will see 1 3

She shouldn’t have been nominated in the first place considering she barely had an album out before the submissions Xcuse me, this makes no sense. Christina Aguilera (debut album) release date: 8/24/1999 2000 Grammys ceremony date: 2/23/2000 The album takes less than an hour to listen to and the Grammy committee made the right decision to nominate it in the first place. No wonder it's one of Xtina's favorite awards because it can't be won again. X. 1

But we will see Toxic's Grammy win did not consider/award who wrote it but the artist & producers, so it is in fact her award. Katy's average critical response is in the low 50s and Avril hasn't written a good album since 2004 so don't hold your breath. 1 1 1
pride4jc1222 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 The 2021 Song of the Year award takes the cake. I Can't Breathe beating out Don't Start Now, with Blinding Lights not even getting nominated.

Britney was and is not respected as a musician. Hell even kid rocks lame ass was more respected. Christina also did her part by campaigning by showing her talent (being able to actually sing) in many showcases with industry insiders. The fact she also was successful with just the cherry on top. 2 1 1

Especially when the pop voter always go for actual hits as well and god is a woman and Havana were right there too. guess the ASIB momentum was just that strong. 2

Fitzswiftie Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Most of the Rock field wins are just so boomerish. It was such a breath of fresh air when Paramore won in 2015.
popmusicisdead Posted March 14 Posted March 14 i love Taylor but out of all of her AOTY wins, she only deserves 1. 2 if i'm being generous and also because i'm a 1989 stan. Midnights was the most egregious 5

GreatestLoveofAll Posted March 14 Posted March 14 1 hour ago, Moonlight Nation said: We could be here all day talking about the embarrassment that were most of the 2000s AOTY wins. - A Steely Dan comeback album, which while well acclaimed was far from the most culturally impactful that year, winning in 2001 over Radiohead's "Kid A" and the commercial behemoth that was Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" (not big on Eminem personally besides some songs, but we know how big commercial success tends to be enough for the Grammys, and it was culturally impactful). Ideally I'd have probably given "Kid A" AOTY and "Stan" SOTY (which wasn't even nominated - naturally). - A posthumous album of covers from Ray Charles winning in 2005 over...ahem... Usher's "Confessions", Kanye West's "The College Dropout", Alicia Keys' "The Diary Of Alicia Keys", and Green Day's "American Idiot" Who won elsewhere in the General Field? A Ray Charles and Norah Jones duet took ROTY over "Yeah!" and "American Idiot", while John Mayer's "Daughters" infamously won over Alicia's "If I Ain't Got You". - U2's "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" winning in 2006 over Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation Of Mimi" and Kanye West's "Late Registration. - The last black AOTY winner until Jon Batiste in 2022? Herbie Hancock in 2008 for a Joni Mitchell cover album, which somehow won over Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" despite her winning 5/6 of her nominations, including ROTY, SOTY, and Best New Artist - Then there's the 2009 mess, as you mentioned. I think they wanted to make up for never even nominating Led Zeppelin besides Best New Artist in 1970, but as usual, an overdue award at the absolute worst time, making them look out-of-touch with the zeitgest yet again. yeah the 2000s were just terrible cause 3
Leptine Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Not a win but Lil Nas X 15 minutes debut EP (57 on Metacritic) getting nominated over the entire ASIB sountrack was ridiculous.
Tylerbv Posted March 14 Posted March 14 The Taylor AOTY wins. I didn't think it was an awful choice, but the Esperanza Spalding BNA still shocks me when I think about it. 3 1

Selegend Posted March 14 Posted March 14 About Damn Time and Harry’s House As It Was should’ve won instead of About Damn Time Bey shouldve won instead of Harry’s House As It Was would’ve been way more deserving than About Damn Time But Harry’s house didnt deserve AOTY
UseYourIllusion2002 Posted March 14 Posted March 14 Like a Prayer not getting any nominations for AOTY or Pop Album, the Grammys were (and still kind of are) sexist as hell. 3
