Harry's House, Bruno should have submitted and stopped that nonsense.

Gaga getting nominated and winning Pop Solo for Joanne is still crazy to me and I like the song.

Christina Aguilera winning Best New Artist. She shouldn’t have been nominated in the first place considering she barely had an album out before the submissions

I would definitely like to peek into the alternate reality where "An Evening With Silk Sonic" and "Dawn FM" got submitted. But at the same time, you just know that in a line-up with those two, "RENAISSANCE", "Un Verano Sin Ti", and "Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers", with all the overdue narratives, making up for past snubs, the biggest seller of the year, and the current favourites who swept the previous year with the lead, the Academy would still find a way to give "Harry's House" the top honour. :doc:

Can't Slow Down over Purple Rain for AOTY is just :rip:

These two didn't had the most successful (Viva la Vida) nor the most acclaimed (In Rainbows) album on the list and still won AOTY somehow :gaycat7:

Without taking shots at people’s faves let’s just say the scammys stopped being real when they banned Janet in 2004 and in 2006 when they snubbed Mariah

Honestly, anyone that has won any grammy against Mariah Carey. She should be the most awarded singer songwriter ever.

Her discography is just stunning tbh!!

Best Contemporary (R&R) Recording (1967)

  • New Vaudeville Band - "Winchester Cathedral"
  • The Association- "Cherish"
  • The Beach Boys - "Good Vibrations"
  • The Beatles- "Eleanor Rigby"
  • The Mamas & the Papas- "Monday, Monday"
  • The Monkees"- Last Train to Clarksville"

This one makes me laugh. "Winchester Cathedral" is a lousy novelty song.

Midnights (both Grammys), 1989, Shape Of You, What Was I Made For? (SOTY).

We could be here all day talking about the embarrassment that were most of the 2000s AOTY wins.

- A Steely Dan comeback album, which while well acclaimed was far from the most culturally impactful that year, winning in 2001 over Radiohead's "Kid A" and the commercial behemoth that was Eminem's "The Marshall Mathers LP" (not big on Eminem personally besides some songs, but we know how big commercial success tends to be enough for the Grammys, and it was culturally impactful). Ideally I'd have probably given "Kid A" AOTY and "Stan" SOTY (which wasn't even nominated - naturally).

- A posthumous album of covers from Ray Charles winning in 2005 over...ahem... Usher's "Confessions", Kanye West's "The College Dropout", Alicia Keys' "The Diary Of Alicia Keys", and Green Day's "American Idiot" :doc:

Who won elsewhere in the General Field? A Ray Charles and Norah Jones duet took ROTY over "Yeah!" and "American Idiot", while John Mayer's "Daughters" infamously won over Alicia's "If I Ain't Got You".

- U2's "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" winning in 2006 over Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation Of Mimi" and Kanye West's "Late Registration.

- The last black AOTY winner until Jon Batiste in 2022? Herbie Hancock in 2008 for a Joni Mitchell cover album, which somehow won over Amy Winehouse's "Back To Black" despite her winning 5/6 of her nominations, including ROTY, SOTY, and Best New Artist

- Then there's the 2009 mess, as you mentioned. I think they wanted to make up for never even nominating Led Zeppelin besides Best New Artist in 1970, but as usual, an overdue award at the absolute worst time, making them look out-of-touch with the zeitgest yet again.
