I really can't put my finger on why. Thematically I think it's too 'optimistic' for me to relate to in my life right now, and the songs while solid and boppy aren't special enough to be carried on the music quality alone. its a shame, I still use Houdini, Training Season and End of an Era but even those grew tired fairly quickly compared to her FN tracks. Is it? Where is the 'radical' optimism in the album? Being happy for an ex? Being grateful that your partner has had partners before? ….dating? Like I really fail to see how any of that is radically optimistic n, the album fails musically as well as on theme and concept for me 2

Either way I'm way too depressed and hurt to resonate with the themes and yeah as I said, the music just didn't hit for me like it did with FN.
NostalgiawithDua Posted August 11 Posted August 11 It's crazy how she had songs like End of an Era (Fun/Bop/Chill), These Walls (Dream Pop upbeat Ballad), Falling Forever (something new for her), yet she chose songs like Illusion which adds nothing to her discography, great song with below-par lyrics….. 1
TayDuaStan Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Hearing Katy's "Lifetimes" i'm kinda glad Dua didn't use the Sarah Hudson & Theron Thomas co-writes from the 2021-2022 sessions on Radical Optimism cuz wow, while I thought some of the songwriting on the released tracks was mediocre, the lyrics on "Lifetimes" are atrocious, so crises averted… 2

It is time to move on ;) I listen the album in full almost every morning when having my coffee and checking emails. Also it was great music for afternoon at the beach or by the pool when I was on holidays with friends in Sardinia and Mykonos this summer. All my friends liked it.

And I will keep saying it too We need DL4 and complaining will somehow trickle down to Dua and she will work and release another record and you will thank me for my service.

Honey Dua and get management dont care if someone is complaining on ATRL they dont like the album unless she is selling out arenas and stadiums. If you dont like the album, invest energy into something different than complaining over and over Chiiiile, Its been 3 months, move on

You can't police me or stop me --- We need DL4 before 2026 tbh.

glitch Posted August 12 Posted August 12 I hope they have a proper "comeback" plan for her next era. Ditch Daddy Lipa, sign with an actual management company, book lots of performances, sack Kevin, call up LOSTBOY, SG Lewis, Mike Sabbath etc and serve some undeniable pop excellence. It's still salvageable because I don't think the GP is even aware she "flopped" in the way that we've seen with some other popstars *cough* Katy *cough*. She's still a fairly big name in the UK at least, and a good reception to her Wembley shows will continue to solidify her brand. It would definitely be a good opportunity to debut some new music/maybe at the BRITS next year 1
Solaria Posted August 12 Posted August 12 We keep coming back to the same discussions… like let's just enjoy the excellence that is Houdini and wait it out till 2026

It would definitely be a good opportunity to debut some new music/maybe at the BRITS next year She hasn't flopped because the album wasn't panned and the era wasn't a 'disaster' era like Witness, Bionic etc. But she wasn't as visible as she was with FN. Sabrina and Chappell took the synth-pop niche she was carving and ran with it. She needs a niche again for her next album. Something that no one in pop music is doing at the time that she's releasing it. And it needs to have a coherent vision and aesthetic. RO was just a mushmash of vacation bikini photos with no clear vision. 2
