It's honestly a mystery how badly her singles underperformed. And seeing they are barely aknowledging this project is sad and worrisome

I wouldn't worry: given her deep seated and till now well hidden love of country music, which the north London of her childhood was absolutely steeped in (I mean, you can't walk down Camden High St without hearing hundreds of twanging fiddles wafting out of every pub), I'd guess that having done a tour of Dollywood, she's currently in deepest Appalachia sipping moonshine and learning the banjo for DL4. 😁😉

She's been singing country since she was 13

Well  I stand corrected, and maybe I'm being overly sarcastic, but I certainly didn't have Dua at the country music awards, on my 2024 bingo card shall we say. It just symptomatic of a lot of odd decisions over the past six months.

I hope I'm proved wrong, and some crossover smash happens. Nobody will be happier than me if that transpires.

As an aside Happy for You is hitting  today more than the past two weeks. Her voice is just gorgeous.

I didn't expect that my top 3 songs are still non-singles!

The rollout might have been messy, the management switch didn't do her any good, many things could have been executed better, but the reality is we are in the era of music being widely accessible and if something is meant to be a hit, it will be a hit. If people didn't click with these songs, no amount of panic push and desperate tactics gonna change that. And this has been the case for FN too - the era was exciting, because we got a lot of content, but the reality is if the songs weren't amazing and the general public didn't love them, the album would never be as big

Totally agree with this. There was something in the songs with FN that just grabbed you and wouldn't let go. Addicting. None of these RO tracks do that for me, especially Illusion. Physical, DSN, Hallucinate… pure pop bliss. Pop songs that get your attention and explode. I'm just using Illusion as an example… but the song just is so monotonous. There's no growth, there's no layered vocals, the instrumentation is basically the same throughout the entire song. I know she can do better.

Houdini tho is that *****.

Another thing that upsets me is that I was really looking forward to psychedelic music from Dua when I heard she was working with Tame Impala. Billie's new album but a bit more pop is what I had in mind, and boy, was I way off. Sad part is that chance is most likely gone. It wouldn't work if she tried it again. And her voice would just SLAY that genre. Oh well.

We DON'T need her to go all YEEHAW pls don't manifest that :biblionny:

Unless she serves Music era by Madonna, I'd be here for that :suburban:

The album with Sweetest Pies and Potions? No thanks :suburban:

We don't talk nosense about the sexy masterpiece named Potion here. It is and will forever be one of her best songs.

Well it's official. This is the only album released this year so far that hasn't aged like total hot **** on a summer day for me. I don't use ES, CC, TTPD or HMHAS anymore already. Maybe a song or two from each, but this is the only album I can play front to back.

This era is horrible and maybe people feel the music isn't up to par, but I really can't do the slow **** anymore. Life is so ****ing hard and depressing nowadays for people and the world is so dark and gloomy, I'm glad at least one artist is letting me use music as an escape rather than a constant reminder of how awful things are.

It was fun being edgy and sad when I was younger but now that I'm older and facing the realities of life, I really need that escape, so thank you to Dua (and Sabrina! xx) for giving me that when no one else seems to want to this year. Charli probably will too so I'm very excited for that release.

damn already leaving spotify... I'm really sad for dua but the songs are not it. Do better next time if the label gives you another chance. I dont think think she'll get dropped because she has two of the most streamed female albums ever but hope Warner sits her a** down and give her advice. Didnt say she wanted to be the next Madonna during an interview well  Madonna worked her once real a** off by being innovative in the second part of her career while making  GP friendly catchy pop music in the first part. She needs to make cool, fun and more easily digestible pop songs. Tame impala songs work for him. He made his songs for Dua lipa,

And We're Goods :suburban:

I think releasing an album in 2022 would have been bad too. Early 2023 was the right year, Cold Heart was dead and the era will have another breath with the success of Barbie and DTN. :duck:

Spoiler

I stepped away from this thread for a week or two and the k*tt*n avatar is still here? :deadbanana:

While I don't mind this project as a whole, and appreciate a lot of the ideas on it, the execution of everything was just...bad. She didn't present her ideas and thoughts and hopes for the album well at all. None of it feels properly translated in anything she's put out, whether sonically or aesthetically. It's time to regroup, mama.

Just release "These Walls," make a remix with Benson Boone. Then release a deluxe with one of the catchier cuts, make it a single—alongside the Chris Stapleton collab hitting country radio. It's still possible to turn this around a la Scarlet (granted, we don't have a Pain the Town Red, but we could have an Agora Hills).

Then go back to work on DL4.

Ok so I just listened the duet with Chris Stapleton and the song is not even country, its more blues if anything else

Dua sounded great, channeling bit of Amy Winehouse
