RadioactiveLights Posted May 5 Posted May 5 This era's chart performance is making me wish Murder on the Dancefloor was a Dua Lipa song
B-Luke Posted May 5 Posted May 5 End of an Era is tugging HARD at Genesis' wig for best Dua album opening track. One and only instance of FN era being dead in a ditch 2

DUA LIPA Posted May 5 Posted May 5 musically this album is so tightly packed and well curated; there's so many different influences that all work together; to me this album is much more based around feelings, a mood, a vision that ties them together. rather than the very visually heavy future nostalgia that gave us a dressed up dua stumbling through amazingly dressed retro settings, radical optimism opens up with end of an era which feels like some sort of transition from FN to RO. Even though the song might sound quite odd at first listen, the loud bass line definitely evokes some songs and moments on FN but all in all it serves as a pallet cleanser for this new album. it kind of also works well that i think this album ends up sounding like an organic continuation of the FN influences; while it was very retro heavy, radical optimism seems to draw from some general soundscape that gives me a similar feeling of what it felt like swapping through radio stations during the early and mid 2000s. these walls feels like the careefree sounding moment on the album that's giving harry's house type of production: it just feels like all the instruments slide through the wind and mix perfectly without feeling overpowering; the song is like a cool summer breeze which also matches the lyrical content of the song. the bells in watcha doing are giving me some serious synesthesia to background music to some sort of scene where i'm enjoying some overtly sweet cornetto or solero ice cream in the early 2000s in the best way possible. French Exit is just so exquisitely produced with the flutes and strings and then there's also the distorted french lines making it sound as if she were talking to us on the phone. it's giving middle eastern influenced pop that was all-present throughout the 2000s without replicating it but making a reference that will be clear to some and probably go over many people's heads. i saw some people say that the album kind of falls flat on the second part but i don't really get that since falling forever feels like such a force in the middle of that section? it's such a dramatic song compared to the songs that come before it, in the loud drums and instruments, the vocal delivery, it's so different to the first part of the album but fits perfectly after the already boppy illusion. it's also giving modern interpretation of some dramatic 80s or 90s song u catch playing on the radio while ur on the road (cindy lauper's i drove all night anyone?); it feels like a well made reference again without trying to replicate things too closely. anything for love is a sombre interlude and feels like palate cleanser taking us back into the soundscape of the earlier section of the album again after illusion took us to the dancefloors, my only complaint is that the song could be a bit longer. Maria is this albums love again and it absolutely slaps, do i need to say more? girlies get your cowboy carter hats on and serve madnnna's don't tell me music video choreography to this; the synths give me a nod to yet another genre, the 200s country-pop production that can be found on madonna's music album or shania's imperial era (with the POP! versions serviced to europe). happy for you definitely ends the album on a high rather than the oftentimes complained about slow boys will be boys segment on future nostalgia that just kind of lets the album fade out. i love how it gives us most of the last minute of the album being the loud instrumental crescendo of heavy drums and synths. the first two singles houdini and training season definitely do not feel representative of this albums vibe at all, although i think they work within the album very well. houdini is a great song and other pop girlies wish they could serve something as odd-sounding as that as their leads to their anticipated new albums, there's only a few of them doing stuff like that (billie and olivia maybe). regarding the rollout, maybe with training season and illusion they could have picked one of them and released it alongside a different track from the album to serve as a sort of promo single that would introduce the vibe of the album in a better way that wouldn't fuel that tired narrative that's been parroted by miserable chronically online losers that the entire album aesthetic shifted like 3 times and everything is course-corrected when that entire discussion makes even less sense if you look back at it now after the album is finally out. i don't understand the constant negativity on online platforms regarding anything anyway – while i'm enjoying my summer/spring with my third screening of challengers, my fourth day trip this week and radical optimism on repeat (both projects apparently doomed before they were even released) these people seem to sit on their social media apps and complain all day; to each their own! truly my album is so beautiful when the sun is low. 2

Nico Robin Posted May 5 Posted May 5 I love These Walls more but Watcha Doing is the true smash of the album
DUA LIPA Posted May 5 Posted May 5 also i've been a shark album cover truther since day one but i have to say that it feels so good seeing how the colour scheme and direction of photography works so well with the album! there is a vision, there is a soundscape that comes alive with all the cool blues and turqouise against the beautifully warm peachy orange and pink colours. i get saying that you don't like the sound and or visual of this album but saying that there is none just makes no sense! 1
brazil Posted May 5 Posted May 5 There are so many songs to enjoy from this album tbh. As a whole I found the album okish, but separetely, so many bops

DUA LIPA Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) of course i am disappointed with the numbers (i personally do not care but i mean i want her to have the budget to do things for this era) but am i going to let it ruin the album for me? i went through all of my fav's flop eras and i am going to go through it again and again because the GP will always do two wrongs for every right their taste buds happen to land on. i better be able to snatch those discounted tour tickets since nobody seems to want to go to the tour this time!! black12345 Posted May 5 Posted May 5 People complaining about this being a flop after 2 or 3 days of being released is something I can't understand… Can't we just be happy with the new music and this being a good album… why is everyone complaining about everything the whole time? And if you are not a fan or don't like her, why do you need to post the whole time of this being a flop… there are several artists I don't like or artists that are doing music I don't like… but I am not posting it the whole time … because I know there are so many different tastes in music … And of course she will tour with this album, why not? 3
