Normal people can take at most a year off, no one made her not release any music for 5 years between 2009 and 2014. Even then people did tune in to a certain extent. Her marital issues/cheating scandal + waiting another 4 years for her next album are what really destroyed her mainstream career. People like Beyoncé, Madonna, Pink, Xtina, Katy, Mariah, Jlo also had children and keep making music and having success with their pop star careers. Even Hilary Duff who has had like 7 children released an album and had some success with it.
