I don't know if it's just me, but when I tried looking up some songs/single covers (especially less successful ones), the rate was creeping into the search results. The way it's probably among the biggest Ringo-related things in the Anglosphere (which doesn't bode well for the state of j-pop but it is what it is)

Yeah, some write-ups probably require knowing a bit of the context of where her life/career was at a particular time and how it was perceived, too. Like I totally get getting your life to, say, 長く短い祭, and then discovering that her fanbase thinks it's the worst thing ever, I'd feel lost, too. And earlier AMIT said that Gips is apparently controversial, and I'm a bit confused, too, Gips of all things, a certified classic? And that's the benefit of not really being in a fanbase and doing your own thing, you don't see those 'interesting' opinions and just enjoy stuff without a ***** breathing down your neck and telling you it's bad.

Absolutely. Just a couple hours ago, I tried my hand at a write-up for Koda Kumi's debut single, just to give it a go, and about 1.5 sentences in, I realized I'm not the one because I don't have any history with her music (save real Emotion's and 1000 Words' appearances in FF lol). At the absolute best, I could summarize a single's Wikipedia page, list its chart data, and copy-paste a machine translation of the lyrics and even that would take an incredible amount of time × the insane number of singles she has.
