DanyelP23 Posted March 2 Posted March 2 If Miley were to put out a 'flop song' it would not go number 1. Also, it feels like Ariana has a bigger dedicated fanbase than Miley. 2
corotinho Posted March 2 Posted March 2 Selena is the bigger name overall. On music, i feel like Miley and Ariana are at the same level. Miley pulled the biggest hit of the last year, but the album did not numbers. While Ariana is flopping with yes, and but i'm sure eternal sunshine will do better than ESV. 4 2
Starkboy Posted March 2 Posted March 2 The way this site thinks having a good moment (for Miley in this case) means automatically you're the biggest 3 2

I'm not saying Miley is more successful in 2023 because Ariana is flopping or something. It only means Miley had a bigger overall career than Ari before 2023, and the 2023 success only widens the difference. 1 1 1
Scars Posted March 2 Posted March 2 9 hours ago, suburbannature said: Hasn't Miley moved a LOT more album units? Ariana had more consistent MPG success and hits, but it sort of feels like Miley was bigger overall. I could be wrong. Yes, she did. It's also worth noting that Miley's commercial peak was much more focused on pushing albums instead of singles. It's impressive that she was able to sell as many albums as she did, but that obviously hurted her catalog of hits in the long run. These girls debuted during different times, so only using streaming stats to look at their careers won't give an accurate asnwer to anyone. This is what their album-equivalent sales look like in the US: Miley - 30.7M album units Ariana - 19.4M Selena - 11.5M Demi - 9.7M I'd make a point about how that gap may look like outside of the US, but Chartmasters isn't a reliable source. A reasonable answer to the question here lies somewhere in the middle of the road, considering that both fandoms usually focus on the chart metric that makes their fave look better. Ariana clearly established herself as a hitmaker in a way that Miley never did and she also had a more stable first decade in the industry, especially when you consider some of the career-suicide choices Miley has made in the mid to late 2010s, but if we're taking a look into their overall careers, it's clear that Miley had one of hell of a commercial prime that is hard to beat. Miley is clearly not the B-tier girlie that some arianators want people to believe. 4

Paty in the USA - a song from the digital era - 1,482,084,894 (1,082,822 daily streams) Santa Tell Me - a song from the streaming era - 1,045,148,522 (64,129 daily streams) Party in the USA charts on Spotify/Apple Music every single day on all of the anglosphere. It has a massive boost on the 4th of July, New Years' Eve or whenever americans are feeling themselves, but it doesn't need a holiday season to chart. Santa Tell Me has an impressive run without a doubt, but you can't compare it to a classic that is streamed every single day of the year. Edited March 2 by Scars 4 1
