Billboard already reported their albums sales last year.

Miley sold 30 million album copies in USA while Ariana only 19 million. Miley's biggest album debut is Breakout with 371k (all pure sales), Ariana's biggest album debut week is 360k thanks to streaming and scooter's payola. And Flowers is bigger song than any of the songs Ari released and is currently outselling Ariana's lead single . Don't play with Miley's name like that.

Party In The USA, Wrecking Ball, and Flowers combined clear Ariana's entire career. Every generation knows those songs and moments. Throw in Hannah Montana as a whole for good measure and it's over.

Well based on their last lead singles with Flowers still charting 14 months later at similar chart positions To YA, I'd say the answer is still Miley.

Maybe? The girl had like 7 back to back number one singles just a couple of years ago, it was truly insane to be able to experience the slayage that was the TUN era. Overall I feel like Miley is bigger and has the more longevity since she has Hannah Montana under her belt, but ultimately I think they are pretty equal in terms of success.

Miley has the biggest career/legacy overall. Regardless of her ups and downs, Miley has been around for 18 years and successfully transitioned from the late physical era to the digital era to the streaming era. She's known by all generations and she was an established household name before Ariana even debuted.

 

Also Ariana has more streaming hits but I think Flowers and PITUSA will outlast Ariana's entire solo catalogue (as evidenced by their recurrent streams)

  This is a setup for Miley, but ATRL jumped again on the Cyrus wagon. Like they did with the release of Flowers, then dumped her when TANKED Summer Vacation was released, came back when she won her first Grammys after 17 year career and probably dumped her again tomorrow lmao.

It's funny to see how Miley can barely compete with an artist who debuted 7 years after her and how her fans can't compare her with her true peers for obvious reasons: Taylor, Rihanna, Katy and Gaga.

Britney is the biggest “ex act” period. Among her age cohort, i’d say Ariana slightly edges out miley at the moment. Though Miley is probably going to end up with the longer career and the bigger legacy. She already has 3 bonafide classics to her name (four if you count The Climb) and her acclaim and respect keeps growing.

Ariana wishes to have iconic hits like Party In The USA, Wrecking Ball, Flowers & Hannah Montana.

Miley has more album sales despite only being limited to 2 singles per era up until recently. And more memorable pop culture moments and performances.
 

Maybe the Weeknd collaborator should run to her next artist for her next quick lil forgotten frontloaded “hit” since her career is carried by collabs.

Britney had the biggest peak but she will be outlasted now that she's retired. She's more infamous now.

If you zoom out and look at the long game of who ends up with the biggest legacies and careers, #1 peaks become less and less relevant.

Right now, it's something like this:

 

1. Ariana

3. Olivia

4. Selena

5. Demi 

 

Demi has not cared about playing the game for a couple of eras now so she's out of this. Selena has shown a big decline in success when it comes to her own stuff. 

 

Olivia has come in like a wrecking ball (pun intended) and the SOUR era is bigger than any Demi, Ariana, Miley or Selena era. Between Miley and Ariana... Miley has had the biggest and most memorable hits and moments (Wrecking Ball, Party and Flowers) but Ariana holds the rest: more number of hits (like c'mon, we're comparing 9 #1s to 2), album longevity, touring numbers... 

 

It's true that it seems like Ariana is going through a hard time clicking with the GP, we'll see how people react to the second single of ES but it's not like Miley doesn't struggle either. Besides Flowers, River BOMBED and Jaded didn't do much better either so her success remains a hit and miss as for the last decade.
