Long story short Geri heard the demo for Some Girls and thought it was hers. Richard X (writer/producer) was appalled at the idea of the song going to Geri and gave it to Rachel Stevens instead.

 

Geri reportedly locked herself in a car and refused to come out in an attempt to change his mind. She subsequently penned a love song for Richard X- a tactic that also ended in failure.

 

Richard & Hannah Robinson (Some Girls co-writer who went on to write three tracks on Geri’s album Passion) penned Me Plus One about the whole situation…..the wiki page for the song explains it pretty succinctly. The lyrics are hilariously on the nose & not exactly complimentary to Geri ddddd.

 

After watching the 2005 documentary There’s Something About Geri (in which she comes across like some kind of Valerie Cherish-esque character despite the show debuting 4 months before The Comeback - it’s actually kind of sad how lonely/desperate Geri comes across in the film) I don’t doubt the meltdown happened. Her Top Gear meltdown at 46:40 is kind of iconic.
